A walk around Telok Ayer and I was surprised to find so many Korean restaurants. One of them is Dal-In at Boon Tat Street. I was contemplating for a long time if I should blog about this restaurant. Not because it’s not worth mentioning. On the opposite, it is a rare gem that I want to keep it to myself.

It’s really not easy to find a good Korean restaurant here. But at Dal-In, it makes me feel like I am in a traditional Korean eatery in Korea the moment I stepped in. The TV plays Korean MTV, we were surrounded by Koreans having their dinner, the Korean waiter speaks to you in broken English and you get real traditional Korean food.

One of my favourite things about having Korean food is the banchan (or side dishes). And the first dish that goes into my mouth is definitely kimchi – which will either break or make my meal. Good start here. Plus, I was delighted that they also serve steamed eggs which was very fluffy. You can ask for refills as many times as you want (not sure about the steamed egg though).

A must-try here is Jokbal ($38), or pig trotter in seasoned soy sauce. Very light in seasoning, the tender meat goes perfectly well when eaten with garlic, bean sauce and green chilli. Now, if I ordered a bottle of Korean beer, I believe that will be the best combination ever. Thankfully, we only ordered 2 dishes, it was more than enough for the 3 of us.

We were recommended to try Seafood Jjamppong Tang ($32). Perfect, because I was craving for jjammpong! The waiter asked if we wanted to make it less spicy but I said no and requested him to serve how the Koreans would eat.

So our seafood soup came in a pool of red broth and generous portions of seafood. Man, the soup was real spicy which sent down some sweat on my forehead. BUT IT WAS SO SHIOK! The fresh seafood is excellent and the combination of soup and rice was indeed tasty.

Thank you my Korean food buddy, Rae, for recommending this restaurant. I can’t wait to go back there for my second meal! Do you have a favourite Korean restaurant? Share with us!
