Do you remember, how did you celebrate your 17th birthday?

For me, it was just a simple occasion with college friends. Nothing fanciful because it was really the company that mattered. All I remembered were the jokes we cracked, the awesome food we ate and the fun we had.

I think this is how birthdays should be. Especially for sweet 17, it should be a day filled with fun and good food. I was honoured to be invited by nydc to attend its 17th birthday bash at the Bugis Junction outlet. We had an exciting and fun-filled dinner with many other bloggers and there were guest appearances of MediaCorp’s artistes Edwin Goh and Jayley Woo!

NEW MNEU

Do you know, nydc started in 1995 with the flagship outlet in Holland Village. Its American founders created nydc to be a place where people could connect, share their joy, let their hair down, enjoy great food with good friends. In the course, the founders fulfilled their personal quests to share their deep love for food and reunite people regardless of their creed, nationality or food philosophy.
In celebration of its 17th birthday, nydc has launched 20 new menu items and brought back two fan favorites: ‘Romeo & Juliet’ and ‘The Picasso Pizza’! New menu offerings include delectable entrees, mains, cheesecakes, mudpies and beverages.

This ain’t a normal bowl of salad! Waldorf with a Hic ($10.80) is served with a traditional bed of lettuce with juicy, whisky-infused grapes, roasted almond flakes and plump raisins dressed in lemon mayo with crunchy Romaine’s. You didn’t hear me wrong, the grapes are whisky infused and this is the highlight for the salad!

Three is not a crowd with this Skinny Dip Chips ($13.50) to share. The warm tortilla chips can be dipped into spiced chilli beef, blue cheese or artichoke blend.

I like the spiced chilli beef dip the most, there is a balance between the sweetness and spiciness of the dip, making me crave for more! You can top up the chips at $3 or top up each dip at $4.

When nydc last removed Romeo & Juliet ($11.90), it got many people upset. Now, this baked baby is BACK!

Smoky crispy bacon stirred with tender sweet corn and hot herbed rice is flavoured in nydc’s signature garlic mayo all topped with oozy, melty mozzarella. The herbed rice is delicious and a very satisfying alternative to white rice. The sweet corn provides a little sweetness to the savory dish.

If you enjoyed Waldorf with a Hic, you will love Drunken Masta’ more! It is a fiesty, chunky seafood stew of tiger prawns, dory fillet, clams and shell pasta, flamed and spiked with the heat of tequila. Yes, it’s tequila! Each mouthful of tomato sauce has a hint of tequila that gives you the kick!
You can choose your drunken master level : Sober (1 shot of tequila) $16.80, Drunk (2 shots of tequila) $18.80, K.O. (3 shots of tequila) $20.80.

pizza

Here at nydc, you can create your own pizza and be the Picasso of the pizza world! If you would like to make your own pizza, here’s what you have to do:

1. Choose a base ($8.95):

Signature Garlic Mayo
Blue Cheese
Tomato

2. Choose 3 toppings:

Topping A (add $2.25 each): Bacon, Beef Pastrami, Beef & Pork Meatballs, Cajun Chicken Cubes, Fresh Shrimps, Pork Ham, Pork Sausages
Topping B (add $1.50 each): Button Mushrooms, Capsicums, Onions, Pineapple Cubes

For our The Picasso Pizza, we had beef pastrami and pork sausages in our tomato based pizza. The thin crust version is basic but pretty good in its simplicity. There’s good cheese coverage and just enough sauce with a crispy and crunchy crust.

Score a duo of hot sauce roasted chicken wrapped in bacon, and more bacon wrapped thick garlic bratwurst sausages. Yankee’s in Town ($14.80) is served with pow-wow wedges, this will get a cheer out of you!

IMG_7514

You should be thirsty by now. nydc has introduced a few yummy drinks. One of my favourites is Berry Freezy ($6.80), which has a perfect blend of fresh mixed berries, real lemonade and soda for a brezzy time! Berry refreshing, berry nice!

What is nydc famous for? Desserts, obviously! They have introduced new Cheesecake flavours such as:

Mango Mayhem ($6.80): Fresh and fragrant mango puree in a cheesecake, baked on an airy-fairy vanilla sponge base.

Raisin’ a Ruckus ($6.80): Raisins are drowned in rum for little random gems of delight in a baked cheesecake.

A Passion For Cheesecakes ($6.80): Fresh passionfruit and fun raspberry jelly meet traditional cheesecake for an explosive tongue-teasing taste.

Englishman in New York ($6.80): Sink into a light sponge and white chocolate mousse infused with earl grey tea that simply melts in your mouth.

P-nut Buttered Up ($6.80): Awesome combination of peanut butter and black sesame in a cheesecake.

mud

What is the first dish you will think of when you come to nydc?

MUDPIES, of course!

This widely enjoyed confection has carved out a unique category for itself in nydc. This time, nydc has launched 6 new mudpies, making this birthday probably nydc’s best ever!

New members joining the mudpie family include the minty-chocolate ‘Sealed with a Kiss’, the strawberry-tinged ‘3-some’ and ‘XOXO’, every choco- holic’s dream ‘Bring Me to the Dark Side’, the fruit-bombed ‘I’m Goin’ Bananas’ and caffeine-laced ‘A Coffee Affair’. Talk about an extension of irresistible proportions!

GoingBananas

Love chocolate and banana? Try I’m Goin’ Bananas ($11.80)! Heavenly banana ice cream is matched with chocolate fudge brownie ice cream and chunks of fudge brownies and walnuts.

SealedKiss

Sinful yet sweet Sealed with a Kiss ($11.80) has 2 layers of chocolate ice cream with gooey marshmallow, caramel swirls, crunchy chocolate balls sandwiching nydc’s signature brownie in a seam topped with fresh mint kiss.

After all the good food, it is cake cutting time! The icing on top of the cake are the 3 winners for “nydc is going 17” public contest where the most creative birthday Post-it message wins a year’s supply of mudpies.
