High Society Cafe

Nestled in the heart of the Marina Bay Sands Shoppes, the High Society Cafe is the latest addition to the High Society group/family of products and services, founded by That CD Shop.

When I walk past High Society Cafe, my first impression was “Oh! This place only sells cupcakes.” Not true, not true. Yes, they are well known for their cupcakes, cakes and macarons. But they also serve proper meal which is very affordable, as compared to other restaurants in MBS.

Lately, High Society welcomes two new chefs and they have have come up with an eclectic mix of East and West, ranging from local delights to modern European fusion. Your dining experience is enhanced by the carefully curated music playlist that is played non-stop at the Cafe.

High Society Cafe: Crab Salad

During dinner that day, we started from Seasonal Special: Crab Salad ($22). Chilled crab meat and tobiko were accompied with garden leaves and honey mustard dressing. There was too much cheese drizzled onto my plate that I had a hard time trying to differentiate between crab meat and cheese.

High Society Cafe: Truffle Aioli

Another light bite we had was French Fries with Truffle Aioli ($8). Unfortunately, the truffle aioli fragrance isn’t really significant, it felt more like eating normal fries.

High Society Cafe: Lamb Shank

My favourite for the night is the Lamb Shank ($29) which is braised with tomato and red wine, accompanied by whipped potatoes and seasonal vegetables. Tenders is definitely there. The red wine and tomato sauce accented the flavour to the next level.

High Society Cafe: Steak Frites

Using 200 days grain fed rib eye steak, Steak Frites ($38) was cooked  in red wine sauce and came with french fries, seasonal vegetables.  The steak had a nice caramelization on the outside while the meat was rather tender and flavorful although not the melt in your mouth kind of texture.

High Society Cafe: Summer Seafood Laksa Spaghetti

I also enjoyed Summer Seafood Laksa Spaghetti ($27) which is pan-seared sea scallops and tiger prawns served with lightly spicy laksa sauce. The sauce was thick and cooked more to the al-dente style, but not too overbearing.  My little complaint is that it is abit too oily.

High Society Cafe: Duck Confit

The slow cooked Duck Confit ($28) was served with mix mesculun, carrot puree, seasonal vegetables and natural sauce. The duck was too salty for me, it has to be paired with either the mashed potatoes or vegetables. I didn’t really like my duck confit half drenched with the sauce.

High Society Cafe

High Society Cafe High Society is about living the good life through the enjoyment of music & good food. It is famous for its desserts and this is obvious when you see the different cupcakes, macarons and cakes in the transparent fridge right in front of the cafe.

High Society Cafe: Apple Crumble

All-time-favourite Apple Crumble ($9) is sauteed granny smith with honey & rosemar, almond cream, perfumed with thyme.

High Society Cafe: Ispahan

Being a crazy Ispahan fan, I ordered their Ispahan ($9) once I saw it in the menu immediately. The combination of rose, raspberry and lychee is just heavenly.

High Society Cafe: Strawberry Short Cake

Who doesn’t love pretty cakes? Strawberry Short Cake ($12) is sabel breton, kirsch mousseline with fresh strawberries.

High Society Cafe: Boss

Chocolate lovers will love Boss ($12) which is 66% chocolate mousse with peppermint creme brulee and cocoa nip nougatine.

High Society Cafe: Casanova

We also ordered some cupcakes to share. Casanova ($6) is a chocolate hazelnut feuilitine with chocolate ganache.

There is also the classic Red Velvet ($6). The light tinge of chocolate vanilla cake had some rum raisin in the cupcake and topped with cream chesse frosting.

Kennie, the executive director of High Society Cafe said, boys/men just love the Classic Vanilla Cupcake ($6) with Tahitian Vanilla Butter Cream. Actually, ladies will love this too!

High Society Cafe: Haute

Say hello to Haute ($6) which is vanilla cake with lemon curd topped with chantilly cream.

High Society Cafe: Macarons

High Society Cafe also serves 12 different kinds of macarons ($2.30 each) everyday. The flavours include chocolate, coffee, vanilla, earl grey, raspberry rose, green tea passion fruit, maple walnut, caramel banana, coconut lime, rum & raisin, praline hazelnut and lemon.

High Society Cafe: Interior

With its distinctive design of chequer Italian marble flooring, golden chandeliers, and white walls adorned with golden frames of red velvet, the Cafe exudes an old world charm of the good life with a twist of contemporary lifestyle living. It is also the perfect venue for corporate events and private parties, with 70 pax for dining and 200 pax for cocktail functions.

The cafe has just launched the Autumn Set Menu. 4 course set of appetizer, soup, main course and dessert at $58++.
