What’s your impression of airline food? Tasteless? Cold? Qantas is changing this perception by offering a new inflight dining offering on flights between Singapore and Australia. Launched last week on Qantas’ Singapore flights, the new experience means customers will enjoy a wider choice of meals, 50% larger servings and faster service.

The new menu offers more generous meals and an increase from two to four meal options. They also have new meal categories, including a healthy option, comfort food and a meal inspired by the route itself, like Rice Noodles, Vegetables and Tofu, with soy chilli and garlic on our Singapore flights.

If you wish to pre-order your meal online, Qantas have extended their Select on Q Eat service to Economy passengers with access to an exclusive dish as the fourth dish. Together with new serving plates, which remove the need for trays, the crew will be able to serve and clear meals up to 30 minutes faster giving them more time to interact and assist passengers.

This season’s menu for flights from Singapore to Australia offers customers the choice of the following options:

Parmesan crumbed pork with tomato relish, potato wedges, broccoli and carrots

Paneer butter masala, curried cauliflower, potato and peas with steamed rice (vegetarian)

Grilled chicken salad with quinoa and pomegranate (healthy)

I usually do not have a good appetite when confined to such a small cabin and would prefer something lighter so the grilled chicken salad with quinoa sealed the deal for me. It’s light, healthy and refreshing!

On the return, pulled beef sliders with capsicum and tomato relish, Maltesers and fresh fruit are among the self-serve grazing options. Shortly after take-off passengers will be served a welcome drink from Australian cordial supplier Bickford’s signature range, featuring flavours exclusive to Qantas such as Lemon & Elderflower, and Pink Grapefruit.

Some Haagen Daz ice cream to end the meal?

A team of Qantas food and beverage experts spent 12 months researching and developing the new menu and service, speaking with customers, visiting local producers and suppliers and researching food and dining trends. Trials were run on a number of international flights and customer satisfaction on those flights almost doubled, hitting record highs.

Together with the launch of the upgraded A330 aircraft on flights from Singapore to Australia on Saturday – featuring lie-flat Marc Newson-designed Business Suites, new model Recaro seats in Economy and more advanced inflight entertainment– the new Economy dining experience on Singapore routes reinforces Qantas’ commitment to Asia, positioning the airline as the premium carrier of choice for travel to Australia.

Select on Q-Eat is available on flights departing Australia, and will be introduced progressively on inbound flights from Singapore to Australia from March 2015.
