A good meal satisfies, but an excellent meal leaves you craving for more. That is what Sui Japanese Dining & Sake has achieved for its patrons for more than six years. We bought a deal coupon from Jigocity which allows us to enjoy Sui fine dining for 2 for only $50 (worth over $100). This is how we get to know about Sui.
Located at the trendy end of Neil Road, Sui is set inside an old two-story dwelling. Serving quality sushi and Japanese cuisine and use only the freshest ingredients, Sui provides great service in a comfortable atmosphere.

Sui Japanese Dining impresses through its unique culture of dining, its established range of sakes and wines and of course, modern Japanese cuisines. We were first served with light and sweet plum juice and an appetizer.

A simple Lobster Salad with just a hint of mayonnaise so that you can still taste the sweet lobster meat.

The Sashimi cuts are fat, juicy and succulent. With something as simple as raw fish, freshness and quality product is absolutely everything, and distinguished through a smooth texture and springy meat, leaving one craving for more.

Atama Yu serves up a bowl of steamed clear soup simmered for four hours with machi (yellowtail) fish head. The clear consomme is really well brewed and it emits a flavour so sweet and fragrant which is unexpected of a clear broth.

Miso Prawns were very well grilled. The fresh prawn was full of miso flavour. My parter and I enjoyed it very much.

Good but an unremarkable dish, the Sauteed Kurobuta Pork was fatty and tender. The tasty sauce goes well with the Japanese brown beech mushrooms.

Sui’s owner, Kenny, is an accomplished chef in French, English and, needless to say, Japanese cuisine. He has been doing this for 10 years, serving each dish with explanation of the historical background and preparation method.

Mackerel Pike (or Sanma in japanese, 秋刀鱼 in chinese) is one of the most prominent seasonal foods representing autumn in Japanese cuisine. For $28, we enjoyed a hearty plate of Sanma Sashimi. Its fatty and sweet red-flesh goes very well with grated ginger, soy sauce and sliced myoga.

This is not the end of the story. After we finished the sashimi, the skeleton of the fish was sent for deep frying and we could literally finish the whole fish! Mixed with vinegar citrus sauce, I love the crunchiness of the bones.

Each and every dish in Sui was so refined and meticulously executed. With its personalized service from the staff, chilled-out ambiance and extensive sake selection, this is what modern Japanese dining should be.
Note: From 1st October onwards, there will be a change of management. A japanese owner will take over and the menu will be geared towards more traditional Japanese dishes. The restaurant has also renovated the 2nd storey to a tatami style dining, suitable for families an big groups. The courtyard will be transformed into a beer garden where you can enjoy some sake with Japanese cuisines.
