Pat & Gina Neely in front of seafood stall

We’ve all been Down Home with Food Network Asia’s highest-rated hosts Pat and Gina Neely, watching them dish out delicious food amidst delightful family fun. This time, they have come to Singapore, to try our local hawker food!

I was very fortunate to get up close with the Neelys and get down with them on their personal lives and food preferences as we bring them to Newton Circus, the heart of Singapore’s local fare, for dinner!

Once high school sweethearts, Pat & Gina Neely now run one of Tennessee’s most successful family-run barbecue restaurants. The pair really know how to mix food with passion. With their natural sense of humour and occasional flirts with each other on air, Pat & Gina shows how a relationship can be built while together cooking a meal for the family.

Keropokman and I brought them around the hawker centre for a tour. We introduced them to some of our local favourite food. As you can see from the photo above, they were very amazed by the huge stingray displaying outside of the BBQ stalls. Gina was squealing at its tail! Of course, we let them try the stingray!

BBQ chicken wings

The Neelys’ favourite of the night was definitely the BBQ chicken wings. These chicken wings are marinated and sent to the BBQ racks. They are served with lime and chilli. Simple yet very flavourful. Pat said it was the first time he sees the chicken wing barbecued in this manner and such a simple dish can be so delicious!

satay

And how can we missed out our satay which is dish of marinated, skewered and grilled meat.

carrot cake

Another dish that created a hype among The Neelys is carrot cake. Because this doesn’t look like their version of carrot cake at all! Well, my dear Neelys, there is no connection between this dish and the sweet Western carrot cake eaten as a dessert. This is simply stir-fried cubes of radish cake.

Pat & Gina Neely

It was a enjoyable dinner with the Neelys. Besides what was taken above, we also had hokkien mee, roti prata, ice kachang, rojak and many many more! I am so glad that the Neelys love these hawker food. I hope they are inspired by our local flavours and gave them new ideas for their new dishes!

Season 4 of “Down Home with the Neelys” has started airing in Food Network Asia from August. If you enjoy preparing wholesome and hearty comfort food for your family and friends, Pat & Gina will impart their barbecue and Southern American recipes on the series and shows you their “passion” for cooking. Catch them on Starhub Channel 433 and HD Channel 468 every Tuesdays!
