The Verandah

Friday is a more relaxed day as compared to the rest of the four days where I will be very very busy. So on one of the Fridays, my boss decided to bring us to The Verandah @ Singapore Polo Club for lunch!

I always thought Singapore Polo Club is only opened for club members, but I was wrong. While their horse riding facilities is only opened for club members, public can still visit their restaurant for a meal.

It was a very sunny afternoon and the horses were most probably resting or having their lunch too. We were seated in the al fresco area, so this is our view from our seats.

It was a rather long wait for our food because the restaurant would serve all our dishes at one go. Our appetizer for the day was Caprese Di Bufala (member $15, non member $17) which was a simple salad made of sliced fresh buffalo mozzarella, tomatoes and basil.

Lately, I have been a crazy fan of mushroom soup. So for almost every restaurant I visit, I would always order their mushroom soup to try. This bowl of Wild Mushroom Soup (member $7.50, non member $9.50) was very rich and creamy, drizzled with my favourite white truffle oil. I think truffle oil is the best accompaniment to any mushroom soup.

I am finding a good recipe to cook my own mushroom soup, if you have a yummy recipe that don’t mind sharing with me, please drop me a mail!

My colleague ordered a plate of Beer Battered Fish & Chips (member $13, non member $15) served with french fries and salad. It has a great crunch but I couldn’t really taste the hint of beer in the batter.

I ordered my usual Seafood Pasta (member $16, non member $18) with tomato sauce. You can choose to cook it in tomato, white wine, nero or aglio olio style. As you can see, generous servings of fresh seafood, the tomato sauce is more sourish than sweet.

Singapore Polo Club not only serves western cuisine, but also asian specialities, surprisingly. You can enjoy dishes such as Grilled Roti Prata, Homemade Laksa, Claypot Rice, Mee Goreng, Hokkien Mee and many more.

My boss ordered Chicken Curry (member $10, non member $12), which was served with steamed rice, achar and papadum. The fiery curry chicken was definitely a challenge during hot weather.

So after lunch, we took a walk around the stables to visit the horses!

There is a retail shop in the Singapore Polo Club, stocking a variety of polo and equestrian products, including tack, helmets, apparel and equestrian-themed gift items.

And of course, there’s a swimming pool. Oh, can I go for a swim instead?
