Geylang is synonymous with glorious food and the red light district. Along Sims Avenue, between Lorong 17 and Lorong 15 is a very popular 24-hour dim sum stall at No. 126, called “Wen Dao Shi”.

I was here 2 years ago for dinner. And this time, I am back here for brunch. I don’t know about you, but what is most memorable to me is the atmosphere. Stepping into this dim sum place is like entering into a Hong Kong style cafe in 1980.

The sauce for the Char Siew Rice Roll(叉烧肠粉,$3.50)is different from the ones we usually had. But it goes well with the soft rice rolls.

I am a huge fan of Tong Heng egg tarts so I always use it to compare with the egg tarts I have eaten. The Egg Tarts(蛋挞,3 for $2)here is soft, not extremely eggy nor pudding like. The crust is just like any other ordinary pastry, I would prefer it to be more buttery and flaky.

I wanted to order har kau but it was sold out on that day. So we had King sew mai(虾饺王,$4.50) instead. A mixture of prawn and pork, the skin is too thick for my liking.

The waitress recommended their custard bun(流沙包,$4)but it was a disappointment. I had expected it to be creamy and flowing yellow custard but it was bland and dry.

The golden crispy thin Fried Pork Intestines(炸大肠,$6)had a hint of Chinese spices, and the texture was light with a very slight hint of chewiness. It tasted somewhat like the thin version of calamari.

For the mushroom lovers, try their Enoki Mushrooms Roll(瘦肉金针菇卷,$6). The marinated lean Meat comes in harmony with the crunchy texture of the Enoki Mushrooms.

The Kong Ba Pau(扣肉包,$3.20)was good. Instead of having the normal size bun, 126 makes Kong Ba roll instead, the bun is thinner and you don’t feel too full eating one whole piece. The meat is soft and tender.

If you are a regular of 126, you would know that besides their dim sum, the other highlight is their White Pepper Crab Bee Hoon(干炒白胡椒螃蟹米粉,$10). In the past, they only sell it for weekend dinner but I guess it is very well received that they are available during lunch and dinner all day! At only $10, you get a big bowl of bee hoon soaked in the crab goodness, with a tinge of white pepper flavor.

A very impromptu session with the friends. I would come back again for their crab bee hoon. Hope I would be able to try their lotus leaf glutinous rice, char siew bun and garlic prawns next time.
