Economical bee hoon is one of Singaporeans’ favourite food to have for breakfast. Pair it with your favourite toppings such as luncheon meat and chicken wings, and you have yourself a very satisfying breakfast.

When I was still staying with my grandfather, he would always buy a packet of fried bee hoon for me before I go to work. It wasn’t exactly economical bee hoon for me because he added a lot of toppings for me – chicken wings, cabbage and onion egg. Sometimes, when I am hungry, I can order up to 4 toppings.

After I moved to my new house, I don’t get to eat economical bee hoon much anymore. Or rather, I don’t have breakfast as often. Recently, I was craving for fried bee hoon for breakfast, so I googled for a economical bee hoon stall that’s nearby, and found 327 Fried Bee Hoon. They moved from 309 Hougang Avenue 5 to the current location.

By the time I visited, they have already run out of nasi lemak. The stall is run by a couple – the husband cooks the dishes at the back of the stall, while the wife attends to the customers. The texture of the bee hoon is just right. It’s well seasoned and not too dry. With a pleasant fragrance of garlic, every strand is springy and moist.

Just like any other economical bee hoon stall, they serve the usual toppings such as luncheon meat, vegetables, sausages, eggs etc. But one topping that you die die must order is the deep fried chicken chop. The golden brown chicken thigh is crispy, tender and juicy. The best combo is fried bee hoon, chicken thigh and sambal chilli. The chilli is rather sweet, and not overly spicy.

Make sure to go early, because the queue can get quite long, especially on weekends.
