Bangkok Jam Sign

Bangkok Jam Interior

The sister (cousin) wanted to give me a birthday treat. So I propose trying a new dining destination at Plaza Singapura new wing. We started by queuing at Tim Ho Wan at 11am on a Saturday morning. After 10 minutes of waiting, the waitress said we must wait for minimum 2 hours. Seriously, I don’t think I will queue for it. I have tried the Hong Kong one and we only queued for about an hour or so? But it is freaking 2 hours, I am not so sure if I want still wait as there are other good stuffs in Hong Kong that don’t need to wait that long.

So we had a last minute change of makan place and settled for Bangkok Jam. Yes I love the restaurant’s modern bistro-styled interior with hints of Thai elements. But the food…. can be better lah!

Bangkok Jam's Seafood in Red Tom Yum & Green Payaya Salad

We started with Green Payaya Salad ($10) as appetizers. It was too sweet for my liking. There was no dried shrimps and it would be better if more chillies were added.

Seafood in Red Tom Yum ($7.90) came surprisingly small portion. Yes, it is appetite-whetting which is rich in flavour and filled with fresh ingredients. But too pricey for such a small portion.

Bangkok Jam's Chicken wings stuffed with mushroom and glass noodles

Chicken wings stuffed with mushroom and glass noodles ($10.90) is a creative dish. The chicken wings are well marinated and fried till juicy with crispy skin. What amazed me was how the chef managed to stuff mushrooms and glass noodles into the chicken.

Bangkok Jam's Bangkok Mixed Grill

Bangkok Mixed Grill ($23) is the most expensive dish in the menu which has a combination of grill squid, prawns, chicken and beef. Overall I think the grill was done pretty well. Chicken was tender. Beef was tough and prawns were overcooked but accompaniment of the chilli sauce made up for it.

Bangkok Jam's Seafood Phad Thai

Seafood Phad Thai ($11.90) was probably one of the better dish over our lunch. The noodles were springy and had great texture and flavour.

Bangkok Jam's Yellow Curry Chicken

Saw the recommended stamp beside Yellow Curry Chicken ($12.90) so we decided to give it a try. Errr but I guess it was a mistake. The curry was served in mini pot which was really small portion. There were carrots and potatoes cut into big pieces and we took some time to scoop it out from the pot while preventing my shirt from getting splashed by the curry. Obviously, the pot is too small. Yes I appreciate their creativity but perhaps a bigger bowl would do the job better.

Bangkok Jam's Mango Sticky Rice

Dessert was Mango Sticky Rice ($8.90) which was not bad. Mangoes were sweet and coconut cream were drizzled on top of the fruit.

Bangkok Jam's Banana Tempura

The batter for Banana Tempura ($9.90) made the banana crispy and lovely!

Bangkok Jam

I had heard alot of negative feedback with regards to their service and billing. While I did not experience any of that sorts, I thought the portion of the dishes can be bigger. In any case, thank you sister for the birthday treat! It is the company that matters!

Blend1comb head

The new wing in Plaza Singapura not only has many makan places, there is also many beauty and hair salons. Just a day before my meal at Bangkok Jam, I visited this new hair salon at Level 4 called “Comb Head” for a hair colour and trim.

If you follow me on instagram, you realize that I enjoy visiting hair salon and nail parlour. My most recent to Korea (in December), I paid a huge sum of money getting my hair permed in a hair salon in Gangnam. Crazy right, I won’t spend on clothes but I would splurge and try new salons every time!

After my Europe trip, I was so busy clearing my work and doing a proper handover that I have no chance to get my hair fixed. So you can see from the photo on the left, my hair looks dry curly mess, my head looks bald. Immediately after I left my job, I quickly made an appointment to try Comb Hair and within 2 hours, I became much prettier (picture on the right)!

Comb Head

I was first brought to the colouring corner (they have separation between colouring and stylist room) where the Colour Technician Steve amazed me with his a great wealth of experience and specialization in colour correction and highlighting. He said my previous colour was too bright (which I agreed) and suggested to do a matt colour for me. While I totally has no idea what colour that was, he assured me that I am going to like the colour.

Comb Head

Tadeh! My colour was done within 30 minutes. Steve is right, I love it. This matt colour toned down my colour and gave me more depth and richness, without destroying the natural feel and shine. Then Phyllis gave me a hair trim to get rid of my dead ends and a lovely bang!

Comb Head

MY END RESULT!

Comb Head

Thank you Steve and Phyllis! Comb Head is very posh with high ceilings and pretty english decor, very cozy! They even create their own cups and hair dryer!
