Canard confit, or duck confit, is a popular French dish.  It isn’t easy finding an affordable yet well-executed duck confit. However, we have good news for you! We’ve found 8 duck confits that cost $20 or less!

Saveur

Ask anyone for great duck confits in Singapore and they would recommend Saveur. I eagerly made my virgin trip down to the store at Purvis Street to try out this famed duck confit ($14.90++). Yes it was flavourful, yes it was tender, but the skin could have been crispier.

Le Bouillon

The Pan Sear Duck Confit ($15.90) served here is similar to Saveur’s, but the flavours are more well-balanced, the skin crispier, and the flesh of the duck leg is more moist and tender. The duck meat was slightly smoky and somehow, it gets sweeter towards the bone – an enjoyable dish overall!

23 Jumpin

The Duck Confit ($16) served here is smaller as compared to the rest I’ve tried. It was about the size of my palm. However, it probably is one of the most fragrant duck confits out there – marinated with 12 different herbs and spices. Its aroma reached me before the duck confit even did. The skin is darker than other duck confits and had a distinct taste of rosemary. .

(Closed) Triple V Coffeehouse

Some may not like this, but this is the most tender, fattiest and also the saltiest duck confit I’ve ever had in my life. Since I’m accustomed to eating very heavily salted food, this Confit De Canard ($12.90) is still acceptable for me. The meat shreds easily with the slightest pressure applied. Pair it with the tart cranberry sauce to cut through the richness of the duck. Even without it the sauce, this duck confit is still amazing as it is.

Carol Mel Cafe

The duck confit here is deep-fried to attain a crispy skin. Curing each duck leg for exactly 30 minutes, this precision prevents the duck from being overly salty. The result is a nicely balanced and seasoned duck, paired with a red wine orange juice reduction that pairs so wonderfully well with the rich duck confit. Unlike other duck confits, this French Confit Du Canard ($20) had a firm meat, but it is not dry. It just has more bite to it.

Boiled veges were out for the day and were replaced with a side of salad with a sweet mayo dressing, which I felt was a clever and refreshing substitution.

La Petite Cuisine

Though small, the Confit de Canard with gratin potato ($17.50) here was done beautifully. It had an evenly crisp skin, and the meat was fork-tender, super soft and moist. The texture was amazing. It was so tender, it kinda just melts in your mouth. In addition, it was perfectly seasoned and the amount of saltiness was just right. The rich, creamy bubbling hot gratin potato that came with it is a delicious side dish to round off the meal.

Garçons

The French Duck Leg Confit ($16.90) served at Garcons had a slightly crisp skin and an intense flavour of pure duck fat that coats the whole duck confit. The duck confit could use a little work though. It is a tad dry and not very flavourful.

Sinpopo Brand

The Nonya Kiam Chye Arg! ($16), is the Asian version of the classic French duck confit. Instead of the usual side of mashed potato and gravy, it came with salted vegetable duck soup and tanghoon. The duck confit was deep-fried and thus, had a nice crisp skin. The meat could have been more tender and moist though.
