Folks Collective Interior

If you are working in the CBD district, you should be familiar with Folks Collective. Opened for barely 3 months, this new Thai restaurant is already creating a hype in the F&B scene. Amanda and I went there for lunch one weekday and I was shocked to see the crowd. All the tables are full, such a hot favourite!

Folks Collective Almost Full house

When you eat in a restaurant, the décor is an important aspect of the dining experience. The color of the walls, the type of furniture and the shape of the plates either enhance or detract from a meal. Located in a 1920’s converted shophouse, everything in Folk Creative is so vintage, retro TV, jackpot machine, wooden chairs and tables…which creates a nostalgic feeling.

Folks Collective's Set Lunch Menu

They have a set lunch menu ($9.90/set) where you get to try 3 dishes in tingkat portion. Don’t understand?

Folks Collective: thai food served in tingkat

Here lah, thai food served in tingkat! Interesting concept, isn’t it? It makes me relive the good old days when my Grandpa would bring lunch in these tiffin carriers to school for me!

Folks Collective: Thai fish cakes, creamy tom yam seafood soup and steamed jasmine rice

Amanda ordered a set of Thai fish cakes, creamy tom yam seafood soup and steamed jasmine rice. While I thought the fish cakes were too small and flat, I actually enjoyed the midly spicy Tom Yum soup. As what my dining partner calls it “food for the OL”, if you are afraid of suffering from a food coma in the afternoon, I think this is just enough for you.

Folks Collective's Pad Thai Goong

I prefer to go back to my favourite Thai dish — Pad Thai Goong ($8.90). Yes it is fragrant and has a lovely sweet tang, but the noodles are slightly too chewy for my liking. Nevermind, I shall give it another chance next time.

Folks Collective's Thai Prawn Cakes with Plum Sauce

Because the portions are suitable for office ladies with small appetite, we giant eaters felt our mains were not enough to satisfy. So we ordered an additional Thai Prawn Cakes with Plum Sauce ($8.90) to share. These prawns cakes are naturally sweet and has nice crispy crunch.

Folks Collective's Thai Ice Milk Tea

They have a long list of drinks menu but we prefer to end your meal with Thai Ice Milk Tea ($3.90/cup).

Folks Collective bar counter

I had too much expectations during my first visit. But I guess we must come back again to try more dishes before forming a conclusion. Heard their signature FOLK wings is one of the recommended dish. So that is in my top list for now.

If you are visiting here after work, be sure to chill out at the bar and enjoy a beer or two. Although I have written the opening hours, in case you didn’t pay close attention to it, the restaurant is closed every Sunday. So make your meal plans carefully!
