Tucked away in the corners of a rustic coffeeshop, lies Hui Wei Chinese-Thai Eatery (回味中泰小廚), which distinguishes itself as being the sole Thai restaurant in the vicinity.
Since its opening a few months ago, Hui Wei boasts a crew of Thai chefs that whips up authentic Thai and Chinese dishes. Its comprehensive menu serve delectable dishes akin to what is served in the Thai palace as well as those found exclusively at eatery only.

Pineapple Fried Rice ($4/$6/$8) was so vibrantly colorful. The juicy pineapple and succulent shrimp worked really well with the curry flavours in this fried rice. The pork floss added a nice contrasting texture to the dish.

Thai Style Honey Chicken ($7/$10/$13) tender and crunchy with a generous amount of sweet honey. Too sweet for me.

Pork shank can be chewy when cooked incorrectly. When prepared properly, however, they become succulent and flavorful. I am surprised Hui Wei also offer Braised Pork Shank ($10) at an affordable price. The meat is very well braised and not too tough too.

If there is one dish that you must die die try there, it would be the Signature Fish Head ($15). Come on, $15 for such a big fish head? That’s incredible! The sauce is actually made from vegetables, hence giving it a spicy yet sour flavor.

I don’t really like eggplant but I truly enjoyed “Mei Ren Yu” Eggplant ($7/$10/$13). The eggplant was deep fried and then cooked with a Kung Pao alike sauce. The eggplant tasted more like french fries. And the sauce complements well with it.

The boss said ikan bilis’s nickname was called “美人鱼” (mermaid). Up till now I had no idea why, but I guess the shape of the ikan bilis resembles that of a mermaid. Figure of 8, get what I mean?

Thai Style Fried Cuttlefish ($7/$10/$13), or simply calamari, is a popular appetizer especially among kids. Nothing special though.

I believe many of you have heard of Crispy Fried Noodle or “Heong Dai Mai Fun”. It was done by firstly deep fried the rice noodle until crispy and then poured on with delicious gravy. Hui Wei came up with this new dish Crispy Fried Noodle ($3) and it was similar to what we had in Malaysia. However, I find the sauce lacks the garlic wok fry flavor.

The team was actually from the Thai food stall in Sembawang Shopping Centre Food Court. So they are definitely not new in the F&B scene. For more information, visit their Facebook page here.
