Le Chasseur: Exterior

Le Chasseur; Interior

Le Chasseur is a very humble looking restaurant opposite Clarke Quay Central. Le Chasseur means “The Hunter” in French. The owner was trained as an engineer and turned to cooking while living in Mauritius. He used to own a restaurant with the same name there. So when he came back to Singapore, he decided to use the same name.

The haze in Singapore has been very very bad for the past week. Eating in open space is difficult………Once you enter the restaurant, you will be greeted by many many food photos pasted on the wall. They have a menu, I think. But it is easier to order by looking at the wall photos.

Le Chasseur: Claypot Rice

There are soooooooo many dishes and it is hard to make decisions. But one of the MUST TRY at Le Chasseur is their Claypot Rice (small $11, $20 big). If you are confirmed eating the claypot rice, my suggestion is order first while you look through other dishes because the wait is about 20 minutes.

Their claypot rice is cooked from raw rice using charcoal. You get the smoky flavour and the charred bits around the claypot. What is unique about them is, their claypot rice uses basmatic rice (the rice that is used for nasi briyani). Hence the rice is lighter in texture and gives an excellent bite. The server will usually mix the sauce and stir for you, we love it!

Curry Chicken ($7) is another popular dish. It has enough punch but I thought the chicken was pretty tough. We also ordered Stewed Beancurd ($3.70), Sambal Ladies Finger ($6.40) and Sambal Eggplant ($7). My Preserved Radish Omelette ($6) was served warm and they use sweet radish.

Instead of serving it with chicken wings, Le Chasseur’s Prawn paste Chicken ($7) is served with chicken chunks. I prefer it this way so that my hands won’t get dirty. Crispy and juicy! Oh by the way, remember to grab their chilli sauce! Their chilli sauce is super SHIOK! It is similar to chinchalok, mild spicy but sour! Goes well with almost every dish!

Le Chasseur: Tau Suan

Another MUST TRY dish is their homemade Tau Suan ($2.50). This is the best tau suan I ever have. They are very generous with their mung beans and they are not too soft nor hard. The beans are steamed and placed in the fridge. When you place an order, the chef will then make the soup with gula melaka. Very very nice!

I will definitely come back for more because there are so many dishes yet to try. If you are dropping by, note that they are moving to new premise soon!

Last day at 31 New Bridge Road: 9 August 2013
