Good, artisanal pratas are hard to come by. Meet Mr and Mrs Mohgan, the couple who does super crispy roti prata in the middle of Joo Chiat. I wanted to find a place in the east to eat good prata and was recommended to try Mr and Mrs Mohgan’s Super Crispy Roti Prata.

Mr and Mrs Mohgan's Super Crispy Roti Prata: Mr Mohgan

Mr Mohgan has been making prata for more than 30 years. He makes his own dough, cooked the curry and flips the prata all by himself. Talk about quality control, this prata man sure knows how to make his customers happy. I visited on a weekday for late breakfast, the small coffee shop was filled with breakfast diners waiting for their pratas. The rustic feel of the coffee shop seems to make prata eating more exciting.

What’s the best way to find out if the prata is good? Eat the kosong (plain) one! I ordered a stack for my foreigner friends to try and they were full of compliments. Moderately thick and pan fried till a beautiful brown, the pratas here are fresh and SUPER CRISPY. Imagine we already had mee rebus and nasi lemak before the prata, but it was so good that we finished it all!

They have 3 types of curry – mutton, fish and dhal. Let them know in advance upon your order. If not, you will be given dhal which had the right consistency. The prata goes well with the curry, that is not too watery and is slightly sweet; its spiciness really packs a punch. I must come back for their fish curry, it seems delicious.

Very satisfying breakfast, love the crispy prata so much that I have returned for more than 3 times this year. It looks thicker than usual, but also crispier than usual. And the buttery taste added the aroma and flavour to the dough.
