Salt Tapas & Bar

Following the success of Salt Grill and Sky Bar in ION Orchard, Australia celebrity chef Luke Mangan opened his first tapas restaurant, Salt Tapas & Bar, on the ground floor of Raffles City Mall.

Salt tapas & bar is an extension on the existing ‘Salt’ brand and creates a vibrant space that celebrates friendship, good wine and great food. His able disciple and former sous chef at Salt Grill and Sky Bar, Tom Wells, presides over the kitchen.

I have dined here 3 times since its opening and I really like the fact that we can order many tapas and share it with friends. Since its opening till now, there has been some changes in the menu. Unfortunately, some of the favourite items are no longer available such as Iberico Pork Loin, Aged rib of beef charcoal grilled with chimichurri and dessert Roasted figs with candied ginger, baklava and yoghurt sorbet.

While waiting for your tapas to arrive, share the Roasted garlic flat bread ($6) with your friends. It opens up the palette with the flavourful garlic-ky Romesco.

Salt Tapas & Bar

Rocket Salad ($9) with parmesan, caramelised walnut & pear is a delightful start to the meal. The vegetables is fresh with sweet and crunchy walnuts.

Salt Tapas & Bar

Mushrooms lovers will like Arancini of wild mushroom & leek ($9 small, $14 large) with Taleggio and green goddess dressing.

Salt Tapas & Bar

Sumac spiced veal & pork meatballs ($14 small, $22 large) is tasty and juicy, the Fontina mash is a perfect match.

Salt Tapas & Bar

One of the must-try dishes is Baked Bone Marrow ($16) sat on coarse seat salt, with shiitake duxelles, Parmesan & air dried olive, served with toasted bread. It is savoury and smooth, very satisfying indeed.

Salt Tapas & Bar

We have been eating soft shell crabs, but Salt serves Crispy soft shell prawns ($15) with chili & garlic aioli instead. The mini prawns are fried till crispy and once you start eating, you can’t stop!

Salt Tapas & Bar

Baby chicken char grilled ($26) with rosemary, lemon and salsa verde is very smoky and moist, but I feel it is overpriced.

Salt Tapas & Bar

Enjoy a range of charcuterie such as German salami ($10), Saucisson ($9), Lamb Bresaola ($13), Parma Prosciutto ($12) and Jamon Iberico ($25).

Salt Tapas & Bar

There is also Wagyu sausage ($14 small, $25 large) with soft polenta, capers & tomato. Nothing much to shout about.

Salt Tapas & Bar

Tuna tartare ($19 small, $27 large) is accompanied with ruby grapefruit and seasoned with mild wasabi mayo.

Salt Tapas & Bar

Taco of tempura prawn ($13 small, $26 large) is fried in light batter. Pineapple salsa and chipotle aioli add tangy flavours to the taco. These bite size portions are easy to pop into mouth.

Salt Tapas & Bar

Another favourite of mine is Tagine of snapper and octopus ($32). It first taste much like Indian curry because of the very rich and flavourful broth make from chickpeas, silverbeet, date & lemon.

Salt Tapas & Bar

End the meal with Gooey hot chocolate tart ($14) with caramelized banana and peanut butter ice cream. As you carefully open up the chocolate tart, the chocolate cream oozes out like a valley.

The fun vibrant furnishings and industrial chic décor of this restaurant is conceptualised by Indonesian upcoming interior designer, James Wijaya. The spacious 120-seater exudes a welcoming dining ambience for diners to socialise freely amongst friends.

My suggestion for you is to try their Lunch Set, where you can have flat bread to share and each person can choose 3 tapas of your choice. The lunch set costs $33.50 ++.
