Encased in a glass dome floating on the waters of the Marina Bay, Catalunya serves one of the finest Spanish food in Singapore. Cataluna is located in the northeast corner of Spain, with miles of coastline on the Mediterranean Sea. It has some of the most sophisticated regional Spanish cuisine.

I have been here twice – once at night and once in the day, it was a total experience altogether. This time round, I am back again for their Sunday brunch – a passionate and festive affair where guests can indulge in the finest food and wine.

The sumptuous brunch starts with a stunning selection of Spanish cured meats, breads, cheeses, seafood, stews and fruits presented at various food stations. We had a good variety of starters such as sardine salpicon, cod fish esqueixada, rucula salad, green asparagus, empedrat, rice salad, pasta salad, escalibada, anchovies, smoked salmon and more.

Spanish breakfast is a classic in many Spanish restaurants, and at Catalunya, they take this brunch offering very seriously with a wide variety of our classic eggs and potato dishes. One dish that is very traditional in Cataluna is Pa Amb Tomaquet, made by cutting a fresh tomato in half and rubbing it on a slice of baguette, then drizzling olive oil on the top and finishing with a touch of salt. So simple, yet so delicious. Eat it plain or top it with a slice of jamón Serrano or a piece of cheese.

I like the glass of Deconstructed Omelette, uniquely displayed with airy potato foam, egg sabayon and onion confit. Take a spoon to dip to the bottom so that you can enjoy the layers altogether. Or, take your pick from the traditional scrambled eggs on a bed of potato with a selection of cured meats and mushrooms. Very homely flavours!

Another favourite of mine is the Bikini sandwich – a decadent treat of jamon, truffle and cheese between grilled slices of bread. No sorry, you’re not getting a swimsuit! The savoury ham and cheese is scented with black truffle. Full of flavours! Not forgetting the Tortilla de Trampo (spanish omelette) which transforms sliced potatoes, chorizo, egg and onions into a luscious dish.

Here comes the fun part! With lively carnival music at the background, everyone was clapping and cheering as the kitchen crew presents a plate of signature suckling pig. The piglet is so crispy and can be cut with a plate instead of a knife.

There is also seafood paella cooked slowly for 25 minutes. The colours are bright and enticing, and the aroma is seductive. Not forgetting the Roasted Veal Shank which is tender and succulent. And a breath-taking presentation of a flaming salt- crusted whole fish which is one of the most spectacular sight.

End your brunch with a series of sweets and cakes. Unfortunately they were not serving churros when I was there. I enjoyed Catalunya Sunday Brunch because of the lively atmosphere that feels like a carnival. It’s a very fun experience. Food wise, expect it to be more salty. But the beautiful 360 degree panoramic view of the city certainly made up for it.

Brunch is served from 12.30pm to 4pm every Sunday, priced at $98++ per person including juices, tea and coffee. You can enjoy unlimited Cava and a selection of cocktails with an additional $48++ per person.
