Sunday Folks Menu: Square Waffles with Sea Salt Gula Melaka Ice Cream with Mild Combination of Sweet and Savoury flavour

Sunday Folks is definitely not a stranger to many cafe hoppers. Under the same company as the famous waffle/ice cream place Creamier @ Toa Payoh, they have opened Sunday Folks at Chip Bee Gardens last year end. The space is so much bigger and spacious, as compared to Creamier. I don’t think they have done much publicity when they first opened. However, Instagram is definitely their best publicity tool as many posted such a delicious waffle shot online. I can’t resist after looking at so many waffle shots on Instagram. So after I met my girl friend for lunch one Thursday afternoon, we decided to check out the place.

The main difference between Creamier and Sunday Folks is the ice cream. In Creamier, the waffles are served with scoops of ice cream, but here at Sunday Folks, soft serve ice cream is served with waffles instead. It’s indeed a hit, two square waffles stacked up together and topped with a tall swirl of soft serve. Such an Instagram worthy shot, wait, let me take a photo before I eat!

The soft serve are available in 6 different flavours: Summer Strawberries, Roasted Pistachio, Earl Grey Lavender, Madagascar Vanilla, Sea Salt Gula Melaka, Dark Chocolate. Having a soft serve stacked on two square waffles costs $11.80, or if you prefer a petite size, go for the single slice with ice cream at $8.80. I picked the creamy sea salt gula melaka soft serve with a mild combination of sweet and savoury flavour. The waffles come with strawberries, blueberries, maple syrup and hazelnut sauce. I picked an extra topping of caramel popcorn and personally I love it! The sweetness from the caramelized popcorn paired incredibly well with the rather mild sea salt gula melaka soft serve.

Available for weekdays only, Sunday Folks also offer tea sets at $10. We picked the Tokyo Yuzu Cheesecake with Pearl of Orient Tea from Gryphon. This light cheesecake flavored with Japanese yuzu which leaves a refreshing aftertaste at the end of the meal. As usual, I ordered a cup of cappuccino ($5). Their coffee beans are from Liberty and featuring the Speakeasy blend. The queue can be pretty long during weekends, be prepared to wait.
