If you are a person who likes to try many different kinds of dishes, then you should visit Tao’s restaurant. Tao’s Restaurant is famous for its Set Menu concept of “One price, One Menu, Many Selections”. They serve modern European and oriental cuisines presented with a touch of Zen in “Tao-Ci” pottery plates (thus the name Tao’s). These plates are said to have a high heat withstanding level which will help to preserve the temperature of the food in a very natural way.
There is NO ala carte menu here. All they serve is, affordable six-course (lunch, $21.80++) and seven-course (dinner, $31.80++) meals with quirky fusion dishes. Quite a unique dining concept.
For starter, we had Bacon and Mushroom Gratin which was rich and creamy. I love the thick toast of bread that we dipped into the gratin.
Tao’s Restaurant comes up with new dishes frequently. We had Huai San and Tofu which was unique. The japanese style tofu came with the chinese huai san. The crunchiness of the huai san and the smoothness of the tofu gave a good contrast in flavours.
Prawn Roll with Pork Floss came in mango sauce, which was quite unique.
Japanese Cold Noodle was served with top shell, peanuts and chilli, which was very refreshing!
Grilled King Oyster Mushroom was flavorful and fragrant. The texture of the mushrooms was sweet and juicy.
Then, there was Sorbet to cleanse the palette before continuing with more dishes!
Food here are in small quantity, so that we can try more dishes. Japanese Fish Consomme does look a bit sad from the photo. But this clear broth has a smoky and unqiue fish aroma.
I like the Sharkfin Melon Herbal Soup more. The flavor of the soup is soaked into the the melon.
I ordered Grilled Seabass with Japanese Sauce as my main. The japanese sauce was tasty but unfortunately, the grilled seabass was a bit dry that day.
The Chef Special for that day was Lamb Chop. They are well grilled and served with a flavorful minty sauce.
Creme Brulee was creamy and rich.
I love their Yam Ice Cream because the yam is very fragrant. So I asked the waiter what brand of ice cream was that, and they said they order from a homemade ice cream maker.
Yangsheng Poached Pear with Red Dates was very unique. But you need to be skillful to use knife to cut open the pear. Unfortunately, the yangsheng poached pear was not soft and sweet enough.
To end the meal, we had Iced Rose Apple Tea and Summer Peach Tea. You can actually eat the apples and peach in the tea!
