The Coastal Settlement

Tucked in the outskirts of Changi is The Coastal Settlement. I have heard so much about it, read so much about it, but the travelling is just too much for me. Just last week, the girlfriend pulled me out of my comfort zone and I agreed to travel all the way to the east for brunch at The Coastal Settlement.

It was a rainy afternoon, but the rain didn’t dampen my spirits. The teeny bit of inconvenience caused from having to run from the car park to the entrance was rewarded with a nicely decorated vintage restaurant surrounded by greenery. Now I can see why this place is so popular because they have a great variety of collectors’ treasures and vintage items like old bicycles, telephone and vinyl players which made me totally immersed in a nostalgic experience.

The brunch menu is available on weekends and public holidays from 11am to 4pm. One of the popular items is definitely their straight-cut Truffle Fries ($15) which was drizzled with some white truffle oil and tasted so good that I don’t really need the homemade ketchup nor mayo.

We settled for a decent plate of The Settlement Big Breakfast ($24) which comes with scrambled egg, creamed mushrooms, maple glazed bacon, chicken cheese sausage, crispy potato, mesclun salad and artisanal toast. We also had the TCS Baked Eggs ($24) with 2 poached eggs, minced beef chuck, chopped beef and pork sausages, tangy homemade tomato sauce and smoked cheddar cheese. Dipping the toast into the minced beef was a pleasure.

A meal is never complete without desserts and what I enjoyed most for my brunch that day was TCS Waffle Stacks ($16) with freshly pressed waffle, strawberries, banana froster, roasted honey macademia nuts, vanilla chantilly, paired with vanilla bean ice cream and maple syrup. Love the buttery waffle, even though I would love it to be more crispy. It is well-balanced and does not tip over into being sweet, although I would not mind that one bit.

If you want a decent venue for large gathering in the East,The Coastal Settlement is definitely a good option. There are also a few private corners for any couples or small groups who seek for a more intimate affair. They have some asian classic in the menu, I will definitely be back to try that!
