True Blue Cuisine: Entrance

True Blue Cuisine: Interior

The girls gave me a birthday treat at True Blue Cuisine a month back. This is perhaps the prettiest restaurant in town. Gorgeous peranakan artwork are displayed in all rooms and you felt like you are transported back in time the minute you enter the restaurant.

True Blue Cuisine: Prawn Crackers

True Blue Cuisine: Longan And Red Date Tea

Begin your meal with the fresh Prawn Crackers ($4) and sweet and refreshing Longan & Red Date Tea ($3 per pax). It is certainly a nice start but I thought it would be complimentary.

When ordering, bear in mind that the portion for each dish is enough for only 2 pax. So if you have 4 pax like us, you probably to order more dishes. We started with Jantong Pisang ($16) which is a spicy banana blossom with cucumber salad.

True Blue’s Ngor Hiang ($12) uses minced chicken instead of pork. No issue for me because it is still tasty and crispy.

True Blue Cuisine: Udang Kuah Nanas

True Blue Cuisine: Beef Rendang

Next, Udang Kuah Nanas ($20) arrived. In Malay, udang means prawns, pedas means spicy and nanas means pineapple. Put this all together, and you get prawns cooked in a spicy pineapple gravy. The prawns are gently cooked in a pineapple sauce that is slightly sweet with a tinge of sour, it goes very well with rice .

Another highlight is Beef Rendang ($16). Althought it was a tad tough, the beef was chock full of rich flavour.

True Blue Cuisine: Ayam buah keluak

True Blue Cuisine: Sotong Hitam

The richness of Ayam buah keluak ($18) is simply amazing. The chicken is cooked perfectly. It is simply a little pot of goodness. Sotong Hitam ($20) is somewhat like Gong Bao Chicken, slightly sweet and hearty.

True Blue Cuisine: Sweet potato leaves in candlenut sauce

True Blue Cuisine: Chap Chye

We also had a plate of creamy Sweet potato leaves in candlenut sauce ($20) and Chap Chye ($12) which was braised till soft.

Thanks girls for the meal! Frankly, I think the food at True Blue is yummy BUT way too pricey. The portions are too small and like the beef rendang, for example, we have to cut them into smaller pieces and have a taste of it.
