2280 Burger – Tasty Beef Burgers Hidden Away in Henderson Industrial Park

Hear ye, hear ye — there’s another new burger place in town (or more precisely, in an industrial park along Henderson Road)! If you’re the type to spend too many few minutes poring over the many available choices on the menu, 2280 Burger will solve your problem in a snap with its streamlined menu comprising just two types of burgers, fries and a handful of beverages including milkshakes.

While its location may be obscure, its reputation certainly far precedes its slightly odd choice of location. 2280 Burger is founded by Ken Loon, the man behind Burger Labo and Naked Finn. The inspiration behind the eatery’s name isn’t very far-fetched and is taken from specific number codes for various beef cuts. In this case, 2280 symbolises beef neck cut.

The nondescript entrance of 2280 Burger hides quite the classy-looking space within, which is decked out with polished wooden tables and graphite walls. The cosy interior is further accented by warm lighting.

Before grabbing a seat, customers are to place their orders at the entrance and will be given a number, which will be flashed on a screen above the food-collection window once your order is ready for collection.

The Beef Burger comes in two sizes, Single ($9.50) and Double ($13.50). I decided to opt for the latter, which came with two hand-shaped patties, house-made pickled onions, melted cheese and house-made shio kombu mayonnaise sandwiched between buttered buns.

The beef patties, made from grass-fed Aberdeen Angus neck, were already plenty beefy on their own, but 2280 Burger injects a boost of flavour with the addition of beef garum to the patties. Beef garum is essentially the beef version of fish sauce and while the beef wasn’t the most tender I’ve had, the flavours of it very clearly shone through especially when paired with the crunchy onions and yummy sauce.

Unfortunately, the burgers don’t come in a set with French Fries, so you have to individually add it to your order for $4.50. I’d actually say it’s pretty worth it though as every fry was fried to perfection and well-seasoned. In fact, I’d order another serving of it because this addictive side remained every bit as crispy throughout my entire meal.

A new addition to their menu is the Fish Burger ($15). The price of it was honestly a bit of a startle, especially after seeing how small the burger was. The burger came with a tart tartar sauce, melted cheese and a breaded fish patty.

Biting into the fish patty instantly showed what sets it apart from your average fish burger. I envisioned it to be flaky on the inside, but it was as if they breaded a whole fish and managed to successfully retain its freshness. There wasn’t much seasoning on the fish patty itself, but the tartar sauce and cheese more than made up for it. But at the end of the day, I’m ambivalent about splashing out $15 on a fish burger.

Speaking of high price points, the Milkshake ($6.50) also elicited an “oh no, they didn’t” with its rather small size. Not that the flavour wasn’t worthy; the sinfully dark chocolate milkshake had a pleasantly thick consistency but wasn’t a struggle to drink up with the straw. And no, you don’t get to choose what flavour to get because there’s literally only one milkshake available.

I can’t exactly see myself making a specific return to 2280 Burger unless I happen to be in the area and craving for a good beef burger that is easy on the wallet. Other than that, I reckon it will fare well with those who live and work in the area and the little lunchtime crowd that was present when I made my visit is already testament to that!
