I don’t know about you, but when I come across a food stall that sells really cheap food, my eyes light up! Every single person queuing in front of me ordered rice with dishes, specifically this huge FRIED CHICKEN THIGH (similar to those like ayam penyet but it is not smashed).

Unfortunately, it was sold out before I arrived at the front of the queue. And mind you, it was only 1pm. What?! Nonetheless, I still went for the fried chicken wings. Let me break down the cost of my nasi padang to show you how cheap it is!

Nasi ($0.50) with a fried chicken wing ($1), curry vegetables ($0.50), fried fish cake ($0.50) and fried egg ($0.50) was only $3!! All of the side dishes I’ve tried were palatable. It would be even better if the curry vegetables were cooked longer so they would be softer. You can also never go wrong with fried fish cake and fried egg. Pair the belachan chilli with the fishcake for extra shiokness!

I will like give a special mention to Al Ehsan’s lontong ($2) because it is just incredible! I was flabbergasted when I realised that it’s just $2, because there’s so many ingredients in it.

Garnished with dried shrimp chilli, the compressed rice cakes were delish! The curry was towards the sweeter side but I found that overall, it was well balanced and pleasant. Surprisingly, my friends who tried the curry said it was overly spicy, but another friend had the same opinion as I did. You definitely got to try it for yourself!

I really liked that Al Ehsan states its prices clearly. This is probably the cheapest nasi padang that I’ve come across thus far! I will definitely be back for its huge fried chicken thigh!!
