How is it possible that I’ve only been to Seah Im Food Centre once, when I’m always in the vicinity? Judging from the crowd, there have to be some pretty good hawker stalls there. Aspirasi Chicken Rice is one of them. This humble stall has been in business for 17 years now, and its impressive array of chicken rice dishes will surely have you spoiled for choice. As I strolled through the smokey hawker centre looking for seats, I saw many eating from this stall. The big piece of chicken was hard to miss.

The Chicken Rice (Penyet) costs $5. I found the serving very generous. Usually, the exterior of fried chicken tastes superb, but the interior is somewhat bland. It is definitely not the case here. The skin was very crispy, and the meat encased within was very flavourful and tender. Believe me when I tell you that it is not greasy at all, despite being a deep-fried item. It’s got that perfect crunch, and just the right amount of seasoning. I was also won over by the fragrance, texture and firmness of the rice. I wish I had ordered two servings! That’s how good it was. The house-made sambal chilli was slightly sweet, with an adequate kick of spiciness.

I also ordered the Chicken Rice (Sambal). For $4, the rice came with a slab of crispy chicken breast. Not a fan of chicken breast? No problem! Feel free to inform them your preferred choice of chicken part when placing your order. I prefer chicken thigh or drumstick, as chicken breast is usually tougher. Fortunately, the chicken breast here was just as moist and delicious. The sambal chilli was different from the chilli in the penyet dish. It’s a tad spicier and more appetizing, in my opinion.

Help yourself to the big red tub of crispy batter which sits at the front of the stall. I’ll suggest that you spoon A LOT of it over your food. An extra crunch never hurt nobody, right?

I highly recommend Aspirasi Chicken Rice. Don’t forget to top your food with the crispy batter, you’re going to go nuts for it!
