When you’re thinking of brunch or platters of cafe-style lunches, the cafes in the east are always ideal go-tos. Bella People & Coffee is a fairly new face in Tanjong Katong and they offer a menu comprising all-day breakfast, a slew of lunch mains, sandwiches, desserts and an extensive selection of beverages.

The spacious interior of the cafe was akin to an IKEA showroom with a clean, minimalistic look and tasteful decorations affixed to the walls. Definitely a good look for those looking for design inspirations for their home! There’s also al fresco seating for folks who enjoy a bit of fresh air with their meals.

The all-day breakfast section has the usual suspects of English Breakfast ($22), Eggs & Toast ($10) and Eggs Benedict ($18). More options are to be found in their list of mains featuring Western food with Asian influences like Pulled Pork Burger ($20), Spicy Soft Shell Crab Pasta ($21) and the Bella Roasted Chicken Leg ($25) that requires a 20-minute prep time.

They also have many beverages to choose from — think caffeinated options of coffee and tea like Flat White ($5.50), Salted Caramel Latte ($7, $8 for iced) and Chai Latte ($8, $9 for iced) and non-caffeinated drinks that include juices and smoothies.

I opted for the Asian Salmon Roulette ($28), which came with a side of deep fried kale, sauteed broccoli and carrots and asam balsamic dressing.

The rolls of torched salmon confit sported a beautiful sear and the mild seasoning only further accentuated the clean, natural flavours of the fish. I absolutely fell in love with the texture of the salmon, which was flaky, and moist. While the salmon confit rolls were plenty delicious on their own, they paired well with drizzles of the sweet and tangy asam balsamic dressing.

While the sauteed broccoli and carrots were a little too hard for my liking, the deep fried kale instantly had me addicted with its crispy texture and seasoning of onion powder.

Be sure to have a hearty enough appetite if you order the Bella Truffle Cheese Toastie ($18) that comes with a side of mixed greens because you know, healthy living? The hulking portions of sourdough came with stretchy Emmental cheese sandwiched between them, along with homemade kombu truffle cream cheese. The fragrance of truffle was apparent when I bit into the sandwich but it was delicate enough to not come off as too artificial. I would have liked it better if the taste of kombu was stronger.

The Latte ($6.50, $7.50 for iced) was a bit too strong and bitter for my liking and while the Cappuccino ($5.50 for regular, $6.50 for large, $7.50 for iced) was not as intense, it was still fairly potent.
