We have been staying in SengKang for the past 4 years but have never really explored the neighbourhood. A few weeks ago, I received an email from a reader regarding this new prawn noodle stall in Compassvale, so we decided to check it out!

I might be wrong but this stall looks very similar to the Big Prawn Noodles at Loyang Way. We arrived at the coffeeshop in Compassvale Lane and queued for about 30 minutes for it.

They are really generous with the prawns. I think I have about 5-6 pieces of halved fresh prawns (for $5.50 per bowl!) You can remove the prawns from their shells easily. Some of them even have a tiny bit of roe!

The house-made chilli was deeply savoury with a prominent hae-bi flavour and was not very spicy. Each strand of al dente noodles was well coated with the chilli, and the dish was completed with some bean sprouts and shallots. I didn’t like the shallots on my first visit because it was oily and not as crispy as I would like it to be. But the soup was lovely. In fact, I always prefer eating dry prawn noodles because the accompanying soup is usually thicker than the soup version.

Each spoonful of the orange-hued soup had a burst of umami from the pork ribs and sweetness from the prawns. You can add other ingredients such as intestines, pork ribs or clams($2 each). We added some clams to elevate the lovely crustacean goodness in the soup. If it is still not good enough for you, sprinkle some paprika to give it the necessary kick.

Both the soup and dry versions were equally good. Every sip of the soup was delightful and I didn’t even feel thirsty after the meal. This was a decent find that’s memorable enough. And it definitely satisfies my cravings!
