Opened for less than a week, Butterknife Folk is all about gelato and cakes. Located along River Valley Road, we dropped by for tea just a few days ago to give it a try. They were simple things. If you prefer something sweet, go for the Frasier ($8) featuring fresh strawberries and mascarpone chantilly. If you like something more sourish like us, head for the Lemony Snickel or Fruit Loop.

Lemony Snickel ($8) features tangy lemon curd pressed into a unique buckwheat crust. The lemon curd is tangy and tart, where the buckwheat crust is gentle and sweet. Each bite zips around your mouth, hitting sweet and sour notes concurrently. My dining partner finds it a little too sourish, hence she preferred the milder Fruit Loop ($8) filled with smooth lemon mousse, strawberry jelly, pistachio sponge and butter sable. It is a mix of flavours – sweet, nutty, tart all combined. Pair them with specially blended tea to while away the afternoon.

I went for one single scoop ($5) of houjicha but I think it was a little too light for my liking. Next time I should try another gelato flavour and pair with their waffle finger ($3.50). The cafe is also conducting baking demonstration class for all baking enthusiasts.
