With society’s obsession with nostalgia and increasing affluence, gone are the days where we sit down in a kopitiam drinking coffee. For now, we are looking for unique cafes with good atmosphere and good coffees.
Especially popular with young people, stopping by a cafe has almost become a culture in Singapore. Cafes are common places to catch up with friends, meet business associates, relax, or to just pop in for your quick ‘coffee fix’. The cafe culture in Singapore has been influenced by locations from all around the world – bringing a fascinating mix of coffee, food and decor together.
It is not just about a drink, it is an experience altogether. I never knew there are so many interesting cafes in Singapore till I met Camy, from Coffee Table People. Her love of pretty food, obsession with pretty decor and penchant for pretty photography just kept me visiting her website. Camy will be doing a four parts CAFE STORY in this blog every Friday. You will be able to read a lovely selection of unique cafes, in Singapore, Korea and Taipei. Hope you will enjoy the cafe experience here 🙂

It is comforting to find a spot that genuinely believes in its concept and one unpretentiously so at that. Crazy World Cafe gives a stage and space to local talents and is host to various local labels. We say, go down for sincerely prepared food and soak in the comforting atmosphere of the place when you need a little escape from the hustle of city.

Stepping in, you’ll immediately get the whiff of Swedish (that reads MEATBALLS!). Fika felt like a lovely bubble that brought us on a little mental vacation, on weekend away from work (definitely much needed). I have never been to Sweden in my life but the food served felt like good comfort food. We say, make a reservation and bring your best buddies along for a lazy weekend brunch.

15 Minutes sees to a good mix of salads (in a jar!), sandwiches, pastas and desserts. Servings are healthy but not overwhelming. Also, we were glad for the super pocket-friendly prices. Those lucky LASALLE kids who get to enjoy such good nosh everyday! The spot also hosts various showcases by performers. Why not, since “in the future, everyone will be famous for 15 minutes”.

Rochester Park sounds terribly uppercut and aloof but it really isn’t so, at least not with Onaka. This garden cafe calls itself an eden sanitary and we’re pretty much sold. It is sheltered from the hustle and bustle of the busy roads with the lush greenery surrounding it. Give your body and break with cleansing, hearty organic food. Remember how your mum always told you to eat greens? This might be where you’ll truly enjoy heeding this advice!

Taking a seat at Restore is uniquely apt for this cafe because it is also a haunt for vintage furnitures. Half of this spot is dedicated solely to restored chairs displayed in an array of bright colours and styles. The cafe greets the visitors with a sweet smell of baked goodies and waffles. We recommend: Bagel with Walnut Cream Cheese. And the waffles. And the sables.
