We’ve always been a café nation. Whether it’s a weekday tea or Sunday brunch, our first choice is usually, and most probably, a café. Hey, I even have friends who travel all the way to Johor Bahru just to café hop! I love dining at cafes, and it’s great to see that there are more cafes sprouting up in the heartlands.

Fans of Dandelion Café located at Bukit Merah Central would be glad to know that the owners have started a new venture, Carrara Café, which opened late last month.

Apart from the usual dishes such as Mentaiko Prawn Pasta ($14.9) and Truffle Mushroom Pasta ($13.90), they do have interesting options, such as Marmite Fried Chicken & Waffle ($13.90) and Salmon Swiss Rosti ($14.90).

I chose the Salmon Swiss Rosti as I was told that the rostis were made in-house. It came with a sunny side up, a side of salad, and a few slices of smoked salmon. There was nothing to shout about. chicken-7

The Marmite Fried Chicken & Waffle came with a side of overcooked potato wedges and overdressed salad, but the marmite chicken was crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. What blew me away was the waffle. To be honest, I didn’t expect much from the waffle as it looked quite doughy, but the waffle was light, crisp and airy.

Carrara Café also has a good selection of cakes, such as the Ondeh Ondeh Cake, and a wide variety of gelatos that are churned in-house. Although I didn’t try any of the gelatos, I think they would make a great dessert when paired with the waffles.
