There’s nothing like an ice-cold beer pairing with delicious dishes, especially when they’re fried or rich in flavour. Chang Beer has made its way onto my go-to list of boozy beverages because of how deliciously smooth and full-bodied it is. While I already love drinking this brew on its own, Chang Sensory Trails takes things up a notch by introducing a score of delectable pairings with Chang Beer that you absolutely must not miss.

Crafted to celebrate beloved Thai dishes from all four different regions in the land of smiles, Chang Sensory Trails is offering an exclusive promotion with all 15 participating restaurants. Customers simply have to order the respective restaurant’s signature dish and get a bottle of Chang Beer for just $1. Can’t get enough of this golden booze? Order two more bottles of Chang Beer and get yet another one for free!

There will also be a special lucky draw with four grand prizes of flights for two to Bangkok or Phuket up for grabs. Simply scan the QR code located on the tent card or banner at each restaurant and register to put yourself in the running to complete the Chang Sensory Trails in Thailand.

Embark on a gastronomic tour with us as we introduce three of our favourite restaurants out of the 15 stunning options on the list!

Gin Khao Bistro

Soak up the sea breeze as you clink glasses (or beer bottles) and dine at Gin Khao Bistro at Quayside Isle. There’s a touch of casual vibrance and contemporary elegance that is reflected in their decor, and the same can be said for their menu as well. Boasting a repertoire of modern classics from the central region of Thailand aka Bangkok, Gin Khao promises rich flavours stemming from top quality Thai herbs and ingredients.

We always love a good chicken wing to chow down on with beer and the Gai Tod Tom Yum ($11.80) certainly didn’t disappoint. These juicy chicken wings were marinated in a spicy tom yum blend and fried to a crisp golden brown. They came with a side of green seafood-based sauce that gave it a bit of a tangy heat and further elevated its flavours.

Another dish that you shouldn’t miss is the Thai Street Omelette with Prawn ($13.80). Dotted with large, plump prawns, the gorgeously fragrant omelette was a feast for the eyes and tummy. In fact, it was hard to tell what stood out more – the fluffy omelette that was cooked to perfection or the fresh prawns that had a distinct crunch to them. We’ll say this though, the two definitely paired well with the sweet Thai chilli sauce on the side.

Given how light on the palate Chang Beer is, it definitely made for a good match with the vibrant flavours of the Gai Tod Tom Yum and Thai Street Omelette with Prawn.

Tongue Thai’d

Located along 16 Kim Tian Road in Tiong Bahru, Tongue Thai’d is an eatery that will certainly grab your attention with their flashy, colourful graffiti-like sign. Their interior is just as eclectic, jazzed up with bright lights, eye-catching wall murals and vibrant metal chairs. It definitely felt like we had wandered into a true-blue Thai eatery!

You’ll undoubtedly be spoilt for choice once you take a gander at their extensive menu comprising a score of Thai classics (some of which come with a modern twist) adapted from various regions of the land of smiles.

We Singaporeans always love our hotpot and it seems only right to kick things off with a bang by indulging in their Tongue Thai’d Hotpot ($39.90) that serves two to three pax. Feast on a mouthwatering heap of ingredients piled into the hotpot that includes fresh river prawns, squid, clams, sliced pork, hotdog, vegetables and mama noodles in a savoury tom yum broth.

One of our favourite dishes was the Cheese & Crispy Chicken Lava Omelette on Rice ($19.90). The blanket of silky eggs had the perfect touch of runniness that made it almost sinful and was further spruced up with melted mozzarella cheese that will instantly have you gobbling it up with the fluffy rice below. We also couldn’t stop munching on the crispy garlic chicken and, of course, this was the perfect pairing with Chang Beer!

If you’re looking for starters that can be shared to segue your way into a night of eating and drinking, the salads at Tongue Thai’d will impress. A spin on a perennial favourite, the Crispy Seabass Fillet with Mango Salad ($22.90) sees battered fish working in tandem with a tangy mango salad that will have you reaching for more. We also couldn’t resist the Grilled Beef Salad ($16.90) that came with strips of tender prime ribeye. Yum! And we love that everything tasted even better with gulps of refreshingly cold Chang Beer!

Boasting a sleek, stylish interior that was reminiscent of a cafe with industrial chic-walls, polished wooden furnishing and twinkling overhead fairy lights, ViBez Bistro Bar is the perfect place to unwind during your lunch break or after a hard day’s work. Expect a blend of traditional Thai classics and modern fusion dishes, some of which include plant-based and keto options as well!

Small bites always go perfectly with a pint of beer and we were more than satisfied to gulp down our Chang Beer with the Panko Prawn Balls ($13.30). These morsels of house-made crispy prawn balls beheld a juicy meatiness that was further enhanced by the sweet plum side it was served with.

Most of the dishes here come from different regions of Thailand but the Thai Grilled Pork ($14.80) in particular is adapted from Issan, the Northeastern part of Thailand. Well-marinated and beautifully tender, the grilled pork was already delicious on its own and made even more so when dipped into the spicy tamarind sauce. It does pack some heat, which makes Chang Beer the ideal choice to wash it all down with.
