Chendol Melaka @ Jalan Tua Kong
Chendol Melaka is a popular little eatery in Jalan Tua Kong for many food lovers. We are obviously drawn to their Nyonya delights. They served two dishes – nasi ulam and chendol.
Have you try Nasi Ulam? Nasi means rice in Malay while ulam means the assortment of herbs. Cooking this dish is not difficult, but the preparation takes a lot of time. 17 different types of herbs and spices are mixed with rice. There’s lemongrass, onions, lime leaves etc, together with long beans, toasted coconut and crispy grago. The ingredients are sliced and chopped, the herbs come together well balanced. It’s fragrant, healthy and appetizing. It’s so good with a bit of sambal belacan, shiok ah!
The fire from the sambal belachan is “extinguished” by a bowl of icy chendol. Fresh coconut milk and gula melaka is drizzled onto a bowl of ice filled with soft chendol strips and red beans. We requested for extra gula melaka but I thought I can add more for a richer taste. The stall is usually closed by 3pm, so i suggest you head there early.
