I come from a traditional Hokkien family so there are many celebrations we do during Chinese New Year. Besides Chinese New Year Eve, the ninth day of the New Year is also an important day for us Hokkiens.
This is the day where we offer prayers to the Jade Emperor of Heaven (天宮) in the Taoist Pantheon. On the midnight of the 8th day, we will offer our thanks to the Emperor of Heaven. Offerings include flowers, roasted meat, mee sua, tea, flowers, red eggs, paper gold etc.
