Expect a fusion of European and American cuisine at Beyond Pancakes that’s perfect for anytime of the day. Just as its name suggests, their menu does expand beyond pancakes to include galettes, pannekoek (Dutch-style pancakes), pastas, mains and more. But their freshly-flipped pancakes are certainly not to be missed! Go for the Original or Chocolate Chip Pancakes Short Stack ($5.70, U.P. $13.45) that comes with ice cream, butter and maple syrup. We loved how fluffy the pancakes were and there was even a slight hint of maple syrup hidden within each one. They’ve got the basics pat down but if you’re hankering for more, we also recommend adding on the Strawberry Cream Cheese ($10.90) to your order!

Well-known for their authentic Hainanese beef noodles, Blanco Court Beef Noodles has many loyal fans. Their Superior Beef Noodles ($11.90 for small, $17.90 for large) come laden with all the works such as beef shank, tripe, sliced beef and beef balls, salted vegetables, beansprouts and Chinese celery. Each cut of beef was beautifully cooked and the starchy gravy in the dry version was very flavourful. Our Beef Ball Noodles ($8.90 for small, $11.90 for large) came with soup and we instantly fell in love with the robust broth. Yet another must-try that will have you addicted is the Spicy Mala Beef Noodles ($5.70, U.P. $8.90) that had that distinctive mouth-numbing spiciness.

Cat & the Fiddle (#02-50)

One of our favourite go-tos for cheesecakes is Cat & the Fiddle and with so many varieties to choose from, it definitely calls for lots of return trips! Their newest addition to the menu, SKIPPY’s Peanut Butter & Jelly won us over from the first bite with its lusciously dense peanut butter glaze and delicate strawberry swirls. The burnt cheesecake trend is also something that will never get old, as proven by the popularity of the Toasty Burnt. For a refreshingly fruity burst of flavour, opt for the Juicy Mango which is the ideal summer treat that brings together the lightness of mango and the richness of cheesecake. And the ever-popular local flavour, Milo Dinosaur ($5.70, U.P. $6.90), will please folks of all ages.

Beat the heat with yet another local favourite at CocoCane – sugarcane juice. The homegrown beverage chain serves a mix of sugarcane drinks, along with popular coconut options. Get a health boost with the CocoCane with Vita C Boost that features a combination of lemon and orange, or indulge in Their Coconut Avocado which is available in unique variations such as Honey Coconut Avocado, Gula Melaka Coconut Avocado and Mango Coconut Avocado. Our favourite power combo to stave off the sweltering weather is the Signature Coconut Ice Cream & Sugarcane Juice ($5.70, U.P. $7.70) that lets you wash your creamy dessert down with a refreshing beverage.

Many of us grew up with Dunkin’ Donuts and there’s nothing quite like a doughnut and coffee to start the day with. Now, you can enjoy a regular hot or iced latte with your choice of donut at just $5.70 (U.P. $7.20). Take your pick amongst their plethora of ring donuts, shell donuts, cake donuts and premium donuts. Some of their best-selling flavours include Matcha Green Tea, Strawberry Frosted, Double Choc Heart and Cookies and Cream. We love healthy indulgences and Hey! I Am Yogost’s extensive offerings are right up our alley. Stick to the classics such as Purple Rice Yogurt ($5.60) and Oreo Boba Yogurt ($5.90), or dive into their yogurt tea blends like the Dragonfruit Yo-Tea ($5.70, U.P. $6.80) that’s not only pleasing to the eyes, but also deliciously creamy and refreshing. The Dragonfruit Yogurt ($5.70, U.P. $6.80), and the Watermelon Yo-Tea ($6.80) will not disappoint as well.

Take a gastronomic trip to Bangkok when you feast on the array of iconic Thai dishes at Nagara Thai Gold. Their appetisers are already forces to be reckoned with. Get ready to be blown away by the incredibly chonky Thai Prawn Cake ($15 for four pieces). The deliciously meaty fried snacks are paired with a lovely sweet sauce. The Deep Fried Honey Chicken ($5.70, U.P. $9) is another equally addictive snack, but you definitely have to save room in your stomach for the main courses! The Claypot Tang Hoon with Prawns ($15) features a nest of rice noodles that have been well-tossed in a sweet, savoury sauce along with a slew of fresh prawns. Nagara Thai Gold is also introducing an exclusive Braised Pork Knuckle with Rice ($5.70) set that sees their usual braised pork knuckle dish turned into a well-rounded meal!

Teleport back in time with snacKING as their array of old-school snacks and retro goods take you on a walk down memory lane! Here, you’ll find all sorts of nostalgic goodies such as Ear Biscuits ($4.90), Whistle Candy ($1.80), Eyeglass Chocolate ($0.50) and even the elusive Craze Hottis (from $4.90) that mysteriously disappeared from 7-11 stores! Two of the snacks that really caught our attention were Satay Sticks and Haw Flakes, which you can get at $2 for both! That’s not all, the kiosk also sells a boatload of toys and games that many of us have begged our parents for when we were younger. Now, you can get them for yourself (and your kids) at incredibly affordable prices!
