When it comes to celebrations like the Mid-Autumn Festival, calorie-counting is always one of my biggest battles. After all, how can one resist over-indulging on yummy mooncakes? I always tell myself that it’s alright to eat to my heart’s content because the Mid-Autumn Festival comes around just once a year! Hence, I’m thankful to have discovered homegrown ice cream brand Scoopz’s Cookies4U pastry line which specialises in creating low-sugar guilt-free treats — just the answer to my mooncake obsession! There’s even an exciting new flavour making its debut in Cookies4U’s highly raved mooncake series this year!

The Premium Peacock Mooncake Set 1 ($69) contains four handcrafted mooncakes made with only premium ingredients. The set comprises unconventional flavours(Tangy Pineapple & Golden Pandan) and trendy lava mooncakes(Lava Black Sesame and Lava Salted Egg).

The Tangy Pineapple, which is CNY inspired, is the latest creation to hit the shelves. The first bite instantly reminded me of the pineapple tarts that I stuffed myself silly on during Chinese New Year. The creamy lotus paste encapsulated a healthy amount of tart pineapple filling that made for a pleasant contrast with the fragrance of the paste. The baked layer was not your usual baked mooncake crust. Rather, it had a buttery crumble that mimicked the texture of pineapple tarts to a tee! Brilliant!

Cutting through the Golden Pandan mooncake made for a nice Instagram story as it revealed a lovely green paste with a vibrant salted egg yolk nestled snugly in the middle. I really enjoyed how it wasn’t too sweet, yet still imparted a lovely pandan fragrance that clearly set it apart from regular lotus paste. The salted egg yolk wasn’t too overpowering and melded well with the pandan paste. Who said low-sugar treats can’t be delicious too?

Among the mooncake selections, the Lava Black Sesame was my favourite. Deliciously rich and nutty, it’s like the mooncake version of goma ice cream. Watching the lava ooze out was certainly pleasing to the eyes. And you will definitely enjoy the molten lava which adds an amazing textural dimension to the delightful creation.

The Lava Salted Egg mooncake was equally sinful with a luscious flowy core. Don’t be surprised if you find yourself hooked from the very first bite. If you’re looking for traditional mooncakes with a twist, this is one you have to try!

If you’re looking for some handmade cookies to go along with the mooncakes, you can’t go wrong with Scoopz’s Golden Pebble ($21.80), Ah Ma Almond ($21.80) and Heavenly Dark Chocolate ($21.80) cookies which will win the hearts of both the young and old.

My favourite of the lot is the rich and buttery Golden Pebble cookies which are delicately crisp and lightly sweet. The cookies just melted in my mouth, and were so addictive that I couldn’t stop reaching for more! The Ah Ma Almond cookies were not too dry and crumbled nicely in my mouth, and the rich and fragrant Heavenly Dark Chocolate cookies were just lovely!
