Cross Cafe (十字冰室) – 100% Hong Kong Trappist Dairy Experience!
[HONG KONG] Raise your hands if you grew up drinking “Trappist” (十字牌) milk. This Hong Kong dairy brand started in the 1960s and is part of almost, if not all, Hong Kongers’ childhood.
Cross Cafe combines the brand with Hong Kong’s ‘Bing Sutts’ (冰室) concept, and currently has 4 outlets in Hong Kong. It is a modern Cha Chaan Teng 茶餐廳 with nostalgic elements such as an eye-catching neon light logo, retro red brick walls, vintage window grills etc. A few of my Hong Kong friends recommended me to pay a visit to Cross Cafe not just for the lovely decor, but also because of its association with Trappist Dairy.
Cross Cafe serves innovative dishes made with Trappist Dairy products, and Trappist milk (original, chocolate or strawberry) in their traditional glass bottles. Try the Steamed Trappist Milk Pudding, Trappist Yoghurt, Deep-fried Trappist Milk, and flavoured milkshakes made from the brand’s milk!
I was happy with my Pineapple Bun with Black Truffle Egg (HKD 38) and Macaroni with Ham in Milk & Pork Bone Dense Soup (HKD 40). Nothing mind-blowing but I like the creamy and custard-like eggs, which had a hint of truffle. They also serve French toast with Nutella, as well as Pineapple Bun with Ham and Turnover Egg.
