There is nothing Singaporeans love more than sitting around a table where every inch is covered with food. And if there is a hotpot and grill in the middle of it, that’s even better. This is the reason why Daessiksin Korean BBQ Buffet & DANRO Japanese Collagen Hotpot Buffet have proven to be very popular amongst foodies over the past few months.

At the newly opened outlet in United Square, you can have the best of both worlds – 2-in1 Korean barbecue buffet, and Japanese collagen hotpot buffet, for less than $20 on weekdays. Just pick a table, put down your bags and queue for a variety of marinated meats, fresh ingredients and a range of Japanese & Korean delicacies at the buffet counter.

Here are 8 Reasons Why We Love DANRO Japanese Collagen Hotpot Buffet.

1. Choose from 7 Soup Base (say yes to COLLAGEN!)

DANRO has many Japanese soup bases for you to choose from:
• Pork Garlic Collagen
• Pork Garlic Spicy
• Chicken Collagen
• Herbal Collagen
• Mala
• Pork Tom yam
• Sukiyaki

We selected the classic chicken collagen and mala broth to try. Yes ladies, you heard me. DANRO offers collagen-based soup that is good for your skin and wallet. Collagen is an essential protein that is responsible for repairing skin and strengthening hair and nails.

The rich and creamy broth is achieved after many hours of boiling and it goes well with all ingredients. When I dip a thin slice of pork belly in, the soup brings out the flavours of the pork belly even more. Come on, eat and drink your way to beautiful skin.

Prawns are available for dinner only.

While Sichuan mala is often spicy and numbing, Japanese mala has got a pleasant after-taste. That familiar layer of chilli oil that usually forms on the surface of mala broths does not form in DANRO’s hotpot. I could truly enjoy a comfortable meal without sweating and panting.

There you have it, spicy and non-spicy soups! The non-spicy soups are good for families with children who are not adapt to taking spicy food. You can also ‘DIY’ your own soup base. For example, if you order the Pork Garlic Collagen soup for your kids, adults can add in kimchi and other spices at the end of the meal for that special kick. Or, you can add in the special marinated Korean meats like beef bulgogi to create a bulgogi stew.

2. Unlimited Servings of PREMIUM Meats

You’ll have plenty of reasons to come to DANRO, because the hotpot genius offers premium meats to pair with different types of soup bases.

It’s a fun dining experience, you get SO MUCH variety in your meat and vegetable offerings (think everything from Prawns, Beef Bulgogi, Pork Bacon, Pork Belly, Chicken Bulgogi, Spicy Octopus to Cabbage and Mushrooms). The thinly sliced beef, pork and chicken are best for hotpot while the marinated meats are ideal for BBQ. The spread is wide and sufficient enough for you to go around a few times without getting tired of the selection.

3. Have FUN grilling your own meats

Besides Japanese collagen hotpot, you can also enjoy barbecued meats at the same time. It’s clear that the kitchen here knows its stuff. The centrepiece of the whole meal is meat. Meat. Meat.

And what makes Korean barbecue so special is the process of cooking the meat yourself. They are already beautifully marinated with a delicate sweetness, waiting to be savoured. All we need to do is to grill it till it’s meltingly tender. Make sure to wrap your meat with lettuce and finish the bundle in a single bite! Spicy octopus with spicy gochujang sauce is my favourite. Seared quickly on the grill, it’s tender, enjoyably chewy, and gives a burst of flavour with every bite!

4. UNLIMITED Banchan for the young and old

The restaurant believes that food is best enjoyed if shared. This belief is displayed in their banchan, a series of side dishes that accompany every meal. At the United Square outlet, you can kick off your lunch or dinner with an exciting range of appetizers like deep fried sweet potato, rice cakes, kimchi and more. I love pairing the kimchi with pork belly. The spicy and sharp pickled vegetables work very well together with the savoury pork belly.

Diners can also expect bossam (pork belly), chicken wings, udon and tangsuyuk on a rotational basis. One of the dishes that I enjoy when I was young is tangsuyuk, a Chinese sweet and sour pork dish that has been adapted to suit the tastebuds of Koreans. I was excited when I saw tangsuyuk appearing on my table. There is a balance between the sweetness and tartness. Because of its sweetness, kids love it too!

5. Say CHEEESSSEEE!

We love cheese, especially when it’s paired with meats. Here, you get a pot of cheese which is used for dipping the meats. It takes a while for the cheese to melt and you should stir it continuously to get a smooth custard-y texture. But trust me, you won’t regret it. We have raved about it in our previous post. Also, they have cheese meatballs which are added into the collagen hotpot. I love the look of surprise on my friends’ faces when they cut into one of these gems and a pool of cheese lava flows out.

6. FREE ICE CREAM

After a huge feast, it’s time to grab some ice cream! Two choices are available, on a rotational basis, at each time. On our day of visit, we had the chocolate mint and cookies & cream.

7. BONDING OVER HOT POT

What better way to have a great time together than bonding over a communal Japanese hot pot meal? We had fun chatting while cooking the food together. It’s also super pocket-friendly, thus good for gatherings!

8. Lunch is LESS THAN $20!
