E.Clat Gourmet Canteen is a new restaurant along Mohamed Sultan Road. E.Clat (pronounced ‘a-kla’) means brilliancy of success in french. Operated by an assembly of property agents, it serves affordable italian food with all day breakfast.
Chef Andy Sim is the chef de cuisine for the restaurant and he has been in the trade for about 22 years. Almost everything in the menu is made in the kitchen, including the bruschetta bread. Chef Andy said, he wanted to cook “fun food” for the diners, something interesting for everyone.

Tomato Bruschetta ($6.90 for 4 pcs) is an easy starter to any meal. It comes heaving with the sweetest, tomatoes and full of garlic. Can’t go wrong for this, simple yet delicious.

E.Clat Cheesy Onion Fries ($9.90) is one of their signature dishes. The fries were first fried before combining with salty onions and cheese. Two types of cheese are used here, mozarella and cheedar cheese. The french fried still retains its crispy coating.

E.Clat serves all day breakfast and this includes the classic Egg Benedict ($10.90). The poached egg has a runny and creamy texture. It was paired with the usual hollandaise sauce, ham and focaccia bread. Nothing much to shout about, I would prefer a more full bodied hollandaise sauce than this.

Nowadays, you can find Fish & Chips in almost every restaurant and there are many different variations of it. Here, the fish can be coated with bread crumbs or beer batter. I tried the Beer Battered Fish & Chips ($16.90). The crispy texture of the fish & chips retains the moisture in the fish.

I like the generous amount of prawns, mussels and squids given in Seafood Baked Rice in Tomato Sauce ($10.90). I was expecting my baked rice to be studded in a thick salty baked cheese topping but it didn’t. It was a pity as I thought it would be better if more cheese was added. And I find the tomato rice too bland for my liking.

Black Pepper Beef Pasta ($12) is their most popular dish. The sliced beef was cooked with their homemade black pepper sauce. The beef was tender but I think their black pepper sauce needs more punch.

I appreciate the crispy thin pizza skin from E.Clat Smoked Duck Pizza ($18.90 for 12 inch). The thinly sliced smoked duck breast was complemented with rocket salad. I like the rich truffle mayonnaise.

Rum & Raisin Panna Cotta ($8.80) gives a sweet ending to the meal.
The restaurant also has a cooking studio where they will conduct cooking lessons once in a while. The whole restaurant has 110 seating capacity and is suitable for events.
