tim-ho-wan

This one-Michelin star eatery in Hong Kong opened its doors in Singapore, bringing you delicious dim sum items all day long. Their Baked Bun with BBQ Pork ($5.30) makes up one of the ‘Four Heavenly Kings’. There’s some crackle from the brittle casing, while a sweet-salty barbecued pork filling sits in the core.

The other three members of the ‘Four Heavenly Kings’ are Steamed Egg Cake ($4), Beancurd Skin with Pork & Shrimp ($5.30), and Pan Fried Carrot Cake ($5). We love the steamed egg cake which is super light and soft.

This restaurant also boasts unique dishes like Quail Egg Siu Mai Topped with Fish Roe ($5.80) and Marinated Pork Intestines in Black Pepper Sauce ($6.80).

Nan Xiang Chicken Rice Restaurant – Chinese Cuisine

nan-xiang-deluxe-set-menu-for-4-pax

Nan Xiang started in Balestier Hawker Centre, Whampoa, in November 1986. Subsequently, they set up a casual restaurant in Square 2, Novena. The Deluxe Combi Meal ($45.90++ for 4 pax) comprises Nan Xiang’s Signature Hainanese Chicken, Braised Pork Belly with Broccoli, Stir Fried Green Veggies, 4 servings of Double Boiled Soup, and 4 Chicken Rice Balls or Chicken Rice. You can choose to have steamed chicken, roasted chicken, or a combination of both.

The fragrant rice is first stir-fried with garlic, ginger, shallots and chicken stock, before it is cooked in a rice cooker. Frying the rice might be laborious and time-consuming, but the final product certainly makes the process worthwhile. The chicken is succulent, well-executed, and just amazing with the accompanying chilli sauce.

Pardon My French – French Cuisine

pardon-my-french-duck-confit

“Pardon My French” or rather, “Excuse My French”, is a common English phrase ostensibly disguising profanity as French. It is funny and unpretentious, just like the attitude of the food served at this eatery. Everything from sauces to stocks are made from scratch here. The menu is quite straightforward, with a few quintessential French dishes like poulet, duck confit, beef stew, and fish baked with ratatouille.

Limit Duck Confit ($25) is slow-cooked for 6 hours, which explains its moist and tender meat. It has a nice crispy skin, and is paired with mashed pumpkin instead of the usual mashed potatoes.
