Does mineral water have taste?

I thought all of them taste the same, till I did a mineral water blind test with my friends and family today. A total of 6 of us, age ranging from 10 to 80 years old had 3 cups of mineral water at room temperature from 3 different brands. These three brands include a bottle of distilled water, spring water and FIJI Water.

So what’s the difference between them?
Spring Water
Spring Water comes from a course that lies just beneath the surface of the ground. Spring water continues naturally to the earth’s surface to form an open natural spring, allowing the water to keep open contact with its surroundings.
Distilled Water
Distillation is a process by which water is boiled until vapor is produced. This vapor is cooled and cooled until it returns to liquid state. The distilled water is completely stripped of any addictives, good or bad.
FIJI Water
Artedian water comes from a well buried deep within the earth. Over thousands of years, rainwater seeps through layers of volcanic rocks to form an underground aquifer. Besides protecting the pristine water source from contamination, the volcanic rocks also impart minerals to the water through the natural filtration process.
Taste indictor profile:
1. Mouth Feel: refers to the texture of the water
2. Body: The body of the water results from its mineral content. A water with a strong mineral composition and taste indicates a hard water.
3. After taste: refers to the immediate, distinctive tastes notes on the palate after the water is consumed.

Results: B IS THE WINNER!

Here are some of the comments:
“C (Spring Water) seems to be more light in taste than A (Distilled Water). B (FIJI Water) is very smooth.”
~ Angela Aw (49 years old, admin assistant)

“B (FIJI Water has a soft and smooth mouthfeel while A (Distilled Water) tastes very coarse.”
~ George Lim (35 years old, operator)
After my family and friends finished the blind test, my aunty wanted me to try it myself too. So she swapped the bottles around and let me have a taste of the bottled water myself. I didn’t like distilled water as it gives a strong metallic aftertaste. Between spring water and FIJI Water, I picked FIJI as it was more smooth than Spring Water.
