PeraMakan
Address: Food Republic Vivocity, 1 Harbour Front Walk, Level 3, Singapore 098585
Peramakan is a play of words from the word ‘Peranakan’ meaning ‘local-born’ and ‘makan’, a Malay word to eat. Marrying two great cultures together, Peranakan cuisine comes the preparation techniques of both traditional Chinese and Malay cooking, hence the taste is distinctive and filled with exciting flavours made from local herbs and spices.
Chef Kathryn Ho is a true-blue Nyonya and the brainchild behind PeraMakan. Bring back the food from her childhood days, all dishes are made from fresh ingredients, without preservatives and food enhancers. Good news is, they have opened an outlet at Food Republic VivoCity so you get to try a whole range of delicious Peranakan dishes at food court prices!
Mention “Peranakan” and the image of “Ayam Buah Keluak” immediately jumps up in your head. The tender chicken in PeraMakan is bathed in a rich “rempah” (pounded spice paste) gravy and is a natural companion to the soft and succulent flesh as you “dig” into this hard nut. Kathryn’s rendition of Babi Pong Tay didn’t disappoint as well. Fatty and decadent pork belly is stew with dried mushrooms and winter bamboo shoots flavoured with bean paste till it is melt-worthy. Other signature dishes that you can find in the new Food Republic stall includes Ikan Garam Assam, Nyonya Chap Chye and Sambal Bendi. Not forgetting the whole range of nyonya kuehs and buns!
Shi Miao Dao Yunnan Rice Noodles (十秒到过桥米线)
Address: Food Republic Vivocity, 1 Harbour Front Walk, Level 3, Singapore 098585
Counting over 750 outlets across China, Shi Miao Dao (十秒到) specialises in one of Yunnan’s most famous heritage dishes – “crossing-the-bridge rice noodles”. Here, bowls are heated to 250 degree celcius so that assorted ingredients are cooked rapidly within 10 seconds when tossed into the bubbling soup stock rendered from simmering chicken and pork bones.
You can choose from different soup base such as Original ($7.80), Mala Soup ($8.50), Tomato Soup ($8.50) and Pickled Cabbage ($8.50). Each soup and noodles is accompanied with a spread of ingredients such as chicken drumlet/wing, tofu skin, black fungus, ham, corn, quail egg, spring onion, vegetables, old vinegar peanuts and seafood.
Their stock base is made with pork and chicken bones simmered for at least 6 hours. I like the Tomato Soup where fresh, crushed tomatoes are added to give that tangy and rich flavor. The Pickled Cabbage soup also impressed me. Made with finely grated cabbage and green chilli pickled in aged vinegar, the soup is sharp with moderate spiciness. Noodles are added at the last to absorb all the flavours from the ingredients and soup. To pair with the noodles, you can also enjoy some Sweet and Sour Radish and Old Vinegar Black Fungus.
Japan Foods Garden
Address: Food Republic Shaw House, 1 Scotts Road, Shaw Centre #B1-01, Singapore 228208
Part of Food Republic at the basement of Shaw House has been redeveloped to include five new Japanese concepts, all of which aim to provide quality Japanese cuisine at pocket-friendly prices. Choices are endless, from Sushi to Teppanyaki to Tendon, it’s really a heaven for Japanese food lovers.
We are definitely in love with the hearty Tendon ($11.80). Deep fried till perfection, you get eight crispy tempura with a bowl of Japanese rice and a delicious sauce. The taste isn’t as strong as it looks, but rather light and easy on the stomach. The star in the food court is the beautiful box of Unagi Seiro Mushi ($28.80). The steamed Japanese rice is nicely stacked with sliced teriyaki eel that gives a sweet hint to the meal.
If you like Teppanyaki like me, try the US Angus Beef Lemon Steak ($18.80) from Gyu Tetsu Teppanyaki. The perks of eating Teppanyaki is, you get to watch the chef in action and enjoy freshly cooked dishes! The thinly sliced beef is cooked on the Teppanyaki hotplate before putting it in the flat iron and drizzling with their homemade citrus sauce to cut the oiliness from the meat.
TAN’S PASTA
Address: Food Republic [email protected], 313 Orchard Road Level 5, Singapore 238895
I eat the Food Republic frequently but I haven’t visited the [email protected] outlet. The space here is really spacious and airy, which makes dining enjoyable. I have always supported young F&B entrepreneurs and this time round, I met 24-year-old Chef Tan who was trained under many popular restaurants in Singapore and then opened his first outlet here – Tan’s Pasta.
I am always attracted to the colour of pesto. The gorgeous green colour speaks the vivid flavour we can get from the herbs. Made with basil, pinenuts and grana padano Italian cheese, Pesto Linguine ($7) is a delicious combination of textures and flavors. For something creamy, the Carbonara Pasta ($7) uses a blend of cream, cheese and black pepper. I like it when some truffle oil adds aroma to the dish.
Tan’s Pasta not only serve pastas; they also have a good variety of western food such as the Roasted Chicken Chop ($8) where the chicken is marinated in spices and roasted in a salamander oven to its crispy skin and tender meat. Drizzled with mushroom sauce, it is then served with salad and potato wedges.
Capitol Bak Chor Mee
Address: Food Republic Manulife Centre, 51 Bras Basah Rd #01-03, Singapore 189554
A brand created by Food Republic, Capitol Bak Chor Mee started from Capitol Piazza and has now opened another outlet at Manulife Centre, Level 1! Sink your teeth into the bowl of Bak Chor Mee with noodles cooked till al dente and tossed with generous amount of chilli, soy sauce and vinegar. It’s one fiery bowl of noodles to start but the vinegar helps to tame it a little. I like to request my BCM with more vinegar.
The unique salted fish bits adds a nice crunch, complemented with pig’s liver, sliced pork, dumplings and pork lard. As part of their opening special, you can enjoy a bowl of Minced Meat Noodle (small) for only $5.00 (U.P. $5.50)!

Wow 11years. Congratulations to Food Republic and HAPPY BIRTHDAY too. The gravy and the freshness of the CRAYFISH is so delightful my wife and I always order one each because we always end up fighting over it. Thank you for the giveaway. Hope to win so can have a feast with my love one.
My favourite dish from Food Republic is delicious Tendon from Japan Foods Garden (Shaw House)! This is such a beautiful dish, topped with different delicious types of crispy tempura (my favourite is the Ebi Tempura) and drizzled with sweet delicious sauce on top on a bowl of hot Japanese steamy rice! YummY!
Liked and Shared this post too! =)
CAPITOL BAK CHOR MEE
There’s something comforting about a good bowl of BCM. I love noodles and vinegar to enhance the taste, so a big YES to this dish being my favourite!
My bf and my favourite stall from food republic would be Sergent Chicken Rice at Shaw House and Bread Talk HQ! We first discover it at Shaw house and we were so happy to see it again at Breadtalk HQ. Shaw house food republic is our frequent spot and we just visited it last week! Would love to win the vouchers to try the other new stalls!
Hi Maureen!!
I’m so glad we share the same taste and I love love love Tan’s pasta!!! I frequent this stall and I always never fail to order the pesto linguine! Food republic has many unique and tasty food that I love other than the 5 mentioned in your blogpost. One of it is the tomato noodle soup sold at Breadtalk HQ. the servings are generous and the soup is just so tasty. I’m salivating while typing this comment. I definitely want to try out the Capitol’s ba chor mee too, it’s my dad’s ultimate Favourite and he always has to have his kopi after a good bowl of noodles.
My fav at Food Republic is the Mentaiko Salmon Bowl at Iki Sushi, 313 Somerset Food Republic. Great tasting Japanese food at a great value!
My Favorite food at Food Republic would be the chicken cutlet curry rice from the Udon Goen stall!
The chicken are always so crisply fried, complimented together with warm Japanese curry.
The generous portion along with the affordable price of it being below $8 makes it my favorite go to stall whenever i am at food republic
The tendon from Shaw’s food republic is my fav and is amazing. I love that I save almost 1/3 off a dish elsewhere I pay $17-19 for, but which is equal in taste. Would savour 2 crazy bowls 🙂
My favourite dish from Food Republic at ION is RIVERSIDE INDONESIAN BBQ cos the chicken is marinated just long enough for the flavourful sauce to seep in, hence the smoky and saucy taste is born which lingers in the mouth when you sink your teeth into it. Top that up with rich coconut curry sauce on the rice and perfectly cooked egg omelette and it’s a winning combo for me to pick it!
Li Xin Teochew fishball noodle is my all time favourite with their yellowtail fishballs and kickass Chilli noodles! Always worth a visit during lunch! Thanks!
My favourite is Monster Curry Cheese Pork Katsu Curry Rice! Cheaper price for the same good taste!

It’s good and best cause you don’t have to pay service charges and GST while you get to enjoy the top quality Vietnam food unlike other restaurant.
I love the Thye Hong Hokkien Mee at Food Republic, Wisma Atria. There’s nothing more satisfying than a piping hot plate of wet, gooey noodles! Served atop a dried Opei leaf to best bring out the flavours of the noodles, this dish comes with fresh prawns and sotong.
My favourite would have to be SHI MIAO DAO YUNNAN RICE NOODLES (十秒到过桥米线).
The choice of crockery with all those little sides really make the whole experience look like a Korean dish. Definitely a must try!

Thye Hong Hokkien Mee is my favourite!! With every slurp of the noodles, you can taste the richness of the broth used in frying the noodles!!Definitely slurp-worthy!
US Angus Beef Lemon Steak from Gyu Tetsu Teppanyaki..simply yum
In the working class, foodcourts are the best place to get cheap(er) food and it’s amazing there are some good finds around! My mum and I love Thye Hong Fried Hokkien Mee at Food Republic at 313. Personally I do not like greasy food (woes of a girl who lives to eat but is scared of putting on weight!) but their Char Kuey Teow is sooooo good it’s really worth my calories. I guess their hokkien mee needs no introduction – a good proportion of white and yellow noodles that has fully absorbed all the essence of the prawn broth. Finished off the meal with an iced cold chendol from the dessert stall – perfect sweetness and generous with their share of red beans and attap chee. I’ve even brought my foreign friends to 313 Food Republic for a local fare and it was all thumbs up! Well done, Food Republic! Thanks for bringing us these yummy treats and looking forward to more good food! 🙂

My favourite is CAPITOL BAK CHOR MEE!!! BCM has got to be the ultimate comfort food for Singaporeans, and I love mine in kway teow. Somehow I think it’s harder to cook kway teow well and if done nicely, it soaks up the maximum flavour from the potent concoction. SHIOK MAX!
My favourite dish will be the CAPITOL BAK CHOR MEE! One of the must try dishes in Singapore is definitely a hearty bowl of bak chor mee!! Just imagine the pork lard, minced meat, lean meat and pork liver all mixed together with my “mee kia” (more vinegar please), SLURP!! 🙂
