Craving the perfect roti canai? Look no further than Gemas Road, home to Penang’s busiest and most beloved roadside stall. Since its inception in 1994, Gemas Road Roti Canai has been satisfying locals and tourists alike with their mouthwatering combinations of this Malaysian favourite.

Gemas Road Roti Canai owes its success to a group of siblings who started this humble venture. Situated along the quaint thoroughfare known as Gemas Road, which cuts through the village of “Kebun Lama,” this stall has become a local institution. The stall’s elder sibling, Shaikh, leads the charge while his brothers handle the cooking, serving, and cleaning duties. It’s no wonder that the stall has earned the moniker “Kedai Shaikh” or Shaikh’s Shop among the neighbourhood residents.

Prepare to indulge in a breakfast experience that is nothing short of glorious. Gemas Road Roti Canai’s signature dish features a delectable combination of fluffy roti canai topped with a sunny side up, a slice of cheese, and a generous portion of raw red onions. Each bite is a delightful balance of textures and flavours.

But the real magic lies in the trio of curry sauces—chicken, beef, and dhal—that accompany the roti canai. Don’t be overwhelmed by their curry selections, and enjoy a little bit of everything by turning your dream breakfast into roti canai banjir (flooded roti canai).

To complement the flavours of the roti canai, you will need a cup of Teh Tarik. This frothy and aromatic beverage adds a touch of sweetness to the rich and savoury roti canai.

Seating options at Gemas Road Roti Canai range from small tables scattered outside the zinc-roofed eatery to communal metal-topped tables under the shelter.

For an authentic and unforgettable roti canai experience, Gemas Road Roti Canai is the ultimate destination. Trust me, waking up early for this breakfast is absolutely worth it.
