Go Indo – There’s Something Addictive About the Rice!

Elisa, who came over to Singapore from Indonesia, was selling nasi lemak at Changi Naval Base for three years before she moved Go Indo to Golden Mile Food Centre in 2016. She picked up her culinary skills from her mother when she was just a young girl.

The Nasi Lemak Set B ($3.50) comprises the typical nasi lemak ingredients – coconut rice, fried chicken wing, fried egg, kuning fried fish, ikan bilis and peanuts, and cucumber slices. The Nasi Lemak Set A ($3) does not include the kuning fried fish. I figured that I might as well get set B since it’s just $0.50 more.

I fed myself a big spoonful of the very aromatic rice, and I was impressed. There was something different about the rice. It tasted like a combination of coconut rice and chicken rice. “I created the recipe for the rice, so you won’t taste this elsewhere. It is special,” Elisa shared with a smile. The rice was really tasty and strangely addictive. I was basically devouring it on its own, almost forgetting that there were other ingredients waiting for me.

The fried chicken wing was out-of-this-world delicious. It was seasoned just right, and it was so crunchy that it made my knees go weak! If I could open my mouth any wider, I would’ve stuffed the whole wing into my mouth. It was that good! Trust me, you can’t stop at one, so do yourself a favour, and save yourself the trouble of queuing again. Add on an additional wing right from the start!

The kuning fried fish was very crispy and flavourful. The meat was fresh, firm, and lightly salty.

I don’t know about you, but I prefer my fried eggs without crisp and lacy edges. The fried egg here was perfect for me. It carried a lovely, runny center too. Break the wobbly yolk and watch the lava yolk flow over the rice.

The ikan bilis and peanuts were very fragrant and crunchy. The house-made nasi lemak sambal was armed with a lovely sweetness and wasn’t overwhelmingly spicy.

Go Indo also serves other dishes such as beef rendang, cooked vegetables and otah, which you can add onto your nasi lemak. This is now my go-to place whenever I’m craving for nasi lemak. You’ll know what I’m talking about after you’ve tried the nasi lemak!
