Calling all fried chicken enthusiasts! Looking for an indulgent fried chicken meal that offers both quantity (or rather, variety) and quality that won’t break the bank? Take a trip through one of the mini industrial kingdoms in Tai Seng to satisfy your cravings at Grab That Chick.

Willy and Jinwen, who are massive fried chicken fans with a combined experience of about 12 years in the F&B industry, have trained with celebrity chefs before venturing out on their own. Prior to setting up Grab That Chick in Tai Seng, they have ventured into a sugarcane stall in Bukit Batok (with an even more tongue-in-cheek name that went viral online, wink wink), lok lok and mookata.

The journey there might have some of you getting a little lost (Google maps is not our friend) but once you’ve arrived, you can instantly spot their cheeky signage. Willy explained that they came across the location in an advert and was intrigued by the whole “beer garden” concept once night falls.

All recipes here are created by Willy and had undergone a rigorous amount of R&D (research & development). You’ll find main dishes such as Chicken Cutlet ($7.50), Mala Spring Chicken ($8 for half, $14 for whole) and even BBQ Chicken Chop ($7.50) and Grilled Chicken Chop ($7.50) if you’re after something just a little healthier.

There are also pasta, rice and salad bowls with chicken incorporated into them, as well as light bites – all fried, of course — like Harcheong Wings ($8.50 for five pieces) and Mentaiko Chicken Bites ($10.50).

You can never beat the classics, so I opted for their signature 2 Pcs Chicken ($7.50) that comes with fries. It usually comes with salad as well, but they happened to be all out of it that day which wasn’t much of a problem because what I’ve got was enough to make me drool on sight.

The perfectly crispy, batter-covered skin gave way to juicy meat that was amazingly tender. No heavy seasoning was detected so this was really fried chicken in its purest form. As for the fries, they were fresh and crisp.

I also decided to give their Tobiko Cheese Chicken ($7) a go and was rewarded with a bowl of fluffy grains and bite-sized pieces of fried chicken drizzled in cheese sauce and topped with tobiko. The finisher was a beautiful onsen egg, that was crowned with even more tobiko. Expect golden yolk to ooze out when you break the egg. Perfection.

The fried chicken here wasn’t as tender as their signature chicken but still made for a good meal, especially when combined with the savoury burst of flavours from the sauce mixed together with the egg and rice. In summary, it was an enjoyable lunch for the price I paid.

I can only imagine how much better the chicken will be when paired with beer (the ultimate night-time combo!) The trip there was a little confusing, but the food sure made up for it. I can safely say that this is one of the better fried chicken places you can find in coffee shops in Singapore!
