Hock Lam Street Popular Beef Kway Teow – Delicious Beef Noodles Since 1921
As its name suggests, Hock Lam Street Popular Beef Kway Teow stall specialises in both dry and soup beef noodles. There are over a hundred hawker stalls at Old Airport Road, and it’s time to find out why Hock Lam beef noodles knocked our socks off.
You can choose from kway teow, thick bee hoon, and yellow noodles. We selected thick bee hoon to go with the Supreme Mix ($6.50/$7.50), which consists of sliced beef, beef balls, beef tendon, beef tripe and beef shank, slathered with thick gravy. Although thick, the gravy isn’t too starchy. It is smooth and flavourful. The beef is cooked just right, boasting a tender texture. Crushed peanuts and pickled vegetables are also added to give the dish a nice crunch.
We tried the soup version of Sliced Beef & Beef Shank Noodles ($5/$6), and chose kway teow to go along with it. The broth features an intense beefy taste, with a hint of herbal flavour. A combination of seasoning has also been added to spice up the broth. We enjoyed the slippery kway teow which went well with the beef and broth. You can also add their homemade chilli sauce with cincalok for a tangy twist!
