My fondest memories have always been indulging in piping hot bowls of thick curry whipped up by my grandmother. The earthy spices and creaminess always kept me coming back for seconds each time, so I was beyond glad to chance upon a stall that sells old-school curry in Redhill Market!

Hock Shun Traditional Homemade Curry is started by a young couple. The wife, Ah Mei, shared that they chose to use claypots to ensure that their curry stays warm and delicious. The stall has several claypot curries to choose from, and I decided to try three of the stall’s most popular offerings!

The Home-made Claypot Curry Chicken Drumstick ($4.50) continues to bubble ferociously even after it has been set down on our table. The sweet and sour aroma immediately enticed me into taking a sip of the curry, which was creamy and thick thanks to the generous amount of coconut milk used in the gravy. The spicy kick came later, which could take some by surprise. The curry came with a large drumstick that had fall-off-the-bone tender meat. However, I wished that the potatoes could’ve been softer and starchier. I decided to pair the curry with the stall’s unique yellow turmeric rice that was fragrant and fluffy.

Next, I tried the Home-made Claypot Curry Chicken Wing ($4), which had an abundance of chicken wings. Surprisingly, the chicken wing was buffed with tender meat, unlike the usual skinny ones, which I appreciate.

The Home-made Claypot Curry Veg ($3.50) comprised long beans, cabbage, and carrots which retained their crunchiness even after soaking up the curry. I would recommend getting the bread to pair with the curry veg for a light meal!

Hock Shun Traditional Homemade Curry’s traditional claypot curries are definitely worth a try!
