You just can’t miss Hong Kong MeiXin’s signature lava custard mooncakes that take Singapore by storm every year! Just imagine deliciously gooey lava cakes, but in a festive, mooncake-form. Made using a unique double-baked method, the mooncake houses a sinful, decadent custard which flows out beautifully from its core. The best part is when you microwave them for five seconds to really get that gorgeous ooze. Yum!

The Lava Quartet Mooncakes ($68) has four flavours in total. Apart from the original Custard, expect the widely-raved about Lava Cheese mooncake which made its debut last year, a deliciously rich Chocolate mooncake, and Caramel Macchiato mooncake which has enchanting notes of coffee weaved perfectly into tinges of caramel. Don’t forget to microwave the mooncakes for 3-5 seconds before consumption!

This year’s character series feature the impossibly adorable minions from the Despicable Me franchise, starring Dave and Stuart! The Minion Bundle Set ($95) is sold as a pair and these roly-poly tumblers not only light up, but each one holds two new flavours: an earthy Purple Sweet Potato mooncake, and an Original Lace Lotus Seed Paste Mooncake.

For me, the highlight was the intriguing lace creation that combines a molten centre inspired by Japanese and Korean confectionery. The stretchy, toffee-like filling is actually a new version of salted egg yolk that beautifully harmonises with the smooth white lotus seed paste and the baked exterior of the mooncake. It’s definitely a fun and inventive change from the usual traditional variation and is sure to please children and adults alike.

Fans of snowskin mooncakes will revel in their colourful fruit-forward snowy mooncake collection. Fruit purée is incorporated to achieve that springy, mochi-like outer layer. The Snowy Mooncake Premium Delicacies ($72.80) comprises one large mango with pomelo dessert flavour to depict “the full moon” alongside seven mini “little stars”, with complementary choices such as Mango, Blueberry Duo and Pink Guava & Apricot.

Bite-sized treats are also available — Snowy Mini 4s ($14.80), with four different flavour series to choose from. For instance, the Dessert series has sweet options that include Chocolate with Macadamia Nuts, and Green Tea & Red Bean, while the Bird’s Nest series switches things up with the addition of Mango and Rock sugar. If you’re looking for refreshingly fruity mooncakes, the Mango series and Fruit series will not disappoint!
