What Are Your Favourite Lunar New Year Memories?

Lunar New Year is a time for families to spend time together and take a break after a year of hard work. My favourite LNY moment is to be back home for reunion dinner which is always specially prepared by my Grandpa.

My dearest Grandpa is already in his 80s, yet he still cooks for us everyday. During Lunar New Year Eve, we will always have a feast as you can see from the whole table of food. Thereafter, we would watch LNY countdown programmes on TV and play with sparklers. It’s also a time when my relatives who reside overseas will visit us. Our favourite place to go is River Hongbao. It’s no longer about getting red packets anymore, I am just more than thankful to be able to enjoy his home-cooked food and company now.

Grand Park City Hall

Welcome the Lunar New Year with Grand Park City Hall as they launch a nostalgic Lunar New Year buffet titled ‘Yesterday Once More’. This is probably the perfect place to bring my grandfather for dinner as the traditional and old-school delicacies are bound to evoke fond memories for him.

From now till 11 February 2017, Executive Chef Eric Ong brings back traditional Chinese heritage dishes such as Chicken and Jelly Fish Salad in Taro Basket, Cold Noodle with Prawns and Dried Shrimps in Soya Shallot Oil Dressing, Pork Belly and Taro with Clam Shape Bun, Braised Grouper in Claypot, Deep-fried Hakka Preserved Bean Curd Marinate Roasted Pork Fritter and more.

A must-have for the Lunar New Year is the Braised Duck with Sea Cucumber and Black Mushroom. The combination of sea cucumber and black mushroom enhance the umami taste, making the tender-soft duck meat very flavourful.
