Tucked in a quiet corner of Shaw Centre (accessible from Shaw House), I Want My Noodle, which serves artisanal noodles made with fresh eggs, was established last November. First-time F&B entrepreneur Derrick Kuah learnt the ropes of managing F&B businesses from his mother-in-law. His Indonesian wife’s family runs Chinese restaurants in Jakarta. You’ll be welcomed by an open-kitchen concept at this casual 80-seater restaurant, with an outdoor terrace for alfresco dining.

From noodles to wanton skins, to sauces, everything at I Want My Noodle is made from scratch. Their Signature My Truffle Oil Noodle ($9.90) caught our attention. Freshly made egg noodles which are slightly thicker and denser in texture than mee kia are tossed in a special braised sauce that’s flavoured with rich and earthy white truffle-infused olive oil. The dish is topped off with stewed Chinese black mushrooms, a slow-cooked egg, and roasted dried baby shrimps to accentuate the flavours. Indeed, this dish is well executed, and each mouthful boasts a strong truffle fragrance.

My Fried Duck Noodle ($15.90) is Derrick’s Asian adaptation of duck confit, seasoned with special herbs. This is the most expensive item on the menu. A bowl of springy noodles featuring an aromatic sesame taste is accompanied by fried duck leg, fried tofu with stuffings, and their special sambal that’s made in-house daily. The fried duck leg has been slightly overdone, and a tad too tough. It’s a little bland, but tastes decent when dipped in the sambal which has a good blend of ginger and chilli.

My Aromatic Prawn Noodle ($14.50) consists of 4 relatively huge prawns. The prawns were well done, but would’ve been better if they were more flavourful. Though the QQ noodles are tossed in a sauce brewed from various warm spices, the taste somewhat resembles a bowl of instant noodles. This is the most disappointing dish out of the three that we tried.

Next time you’re shopping or catching a movie along Orchard Road and don’t know what to eat, you might want to consider I Want My Noodle. There are also other options such as Lor Bah noodle, pork noodle, chicken noodle, and double roast noodle, to name a few. We recommend going for My Truffle Oil Noodle!
