From cafe dishes to hearty local delights and even lip-smacking halal goodies, there is so much to offer. Whether you’re working in the neighbourhood or meeting friends for dinner, here’s a useful food guide for you.

Open Heart Surgery Fried Rice ($35.20) is truly a hearty platter that’s good for 2. You get a New York strip, spring chicken filled with sausages in tomato sauce and heart attack fried rice. Each piece of New York strip is so tender and juicy. Even though the heart attack fried rice is simply a bowl of white rice fried with black sauce, it emphasizes the notion that food can be simple, yet tasty.
There are so many pasta choices but you will never go wrong with the Salted Egg Prawn Pasta ($14.80). Each strand of linguine is coated with their unique golden sauce and topped with succulent prawns. Shi Li Fang
An established brand in China with more than 20 outlets in Beijing, Shi Li Fang is a casual hotpot restaurant that prides itself in its MSG-free and non-fried cuisine.
Besides the ala carte options, they have set menus which are good for those who want a little of everything. We recommend going for the sliced chicken or sliced pork belly for your protein. The set is served with a generous basket of fresh ingredients like cabbage, enoki mushrooms, tofu and a whole egg. You can also select up to two soup bases (we recommend the specialty mala soup and the tonic chicken soup), a choice of rice or noodles, and a drink.
A key attraction is its large array of 30 dipping sauces; Shi Li Fang also offers marinated meats such as Specialty Chicken and Pork Tenderloin alongside the usual steam-ready meats. Customers may also try their hand at pulling their own noodles before adding them into the pot.

Shu Jiang Grilled Fish
Originating from Wushan County in Chongqing, Shu Jiang Grilled Fish combines fresh ingredients with traditional Sichuan cooking. A special oven is used for grilling the fish, which lends a smoky aroma. There are three types of fish for you to choose from – Barramundi, Red Snapper, or Sea Bass. After you’ve picked your desired fish, it is cooked to the right doneness and doused in the sauce of your choice.
I’ll recommend picking the Chef Special Spicy Sauce. Expect your fish to be served with dried chilli, soya bean and peanut. Be prepared for a mouth-numbing experiences, but I kinda love that party in the mouth. When the heat has subsided, you are ready for the next bite. It’s this mini-adrenaline rush that comes with each bite, that makes Sichuan food so intensely exciting.
For those who can’t take the spice, have the fermented soya bean sauce instead. Your dish will come served with potato cubes, red & green chilli, and fresh minced meat. Don’t forget to try their Golden Crispy Fish Skin ($6.80) and Braised Homemade Tofu with Vegetables in Oyster Sauce ($16 small, $24 medium).

POT LUCK is a restaurant concept by The Soup Restaurant. It offers affordable and home-style ‘zi char dishes in claypots’ in a nostalgic old Chinatown setting that will bring you back to the Singapore of the 1960s.
Revel in the nostalgia as you enjoy the piping hot claypot dishes! The Curry Fish Head ($19.99) sees a red snapper drenched in an addictive gravy made using a variety of spices. The flesh is so soft and soaks up the curry flavours really well. The spices from the curry enhance the natural flavour of the fish head without overpowering it. Together with tofu skin, ladies finger and tomatoes, it’s a complete meal on its own.
Other dishes worth trying include Vermicelli Prawns ($13.99), Sesame Oil Chicken ($9.99) and Assam Stingray ($9.99). Customers can also help themselves to a free flow of hot and cold beverages at $2.80 each, as well as rice at $1.50 per person.
