Most of us know Tanjong Pagar to be home to a sprawling lane of Korean BBQ restaurants, and tons of Japanese food in 100AM, but it’s also quite the popular spot for sweet treats as well. Located deep within the obscure confines of Onze @ Tanjong Pagar, K Patisserie is the newest addition to the dessert scene in the area.

Enter a relaxing space dressed in shades of soft pink highlighted with sleek black lines, mellow wood accents, and a hint of greenery. Albeit on the smaller side, it’s definitely a cosy place where you can have a relaxing time with friends, partners, or enjoy some quality me-time.

All the cakes and bakes they have to offer, which are hand-made by their resident baker who had spent time in culinary school, are on display at the entrance of the patisserie. They also have beverages such as Americano ($5), Tea ($7), Chocolate ($6) and Matcha ($6.50) that pair well with sweets.

I’m always up for desserts infused with local flavours and was, thus, drawn to the Pulut Hitam ($8.50). K Patisserie’s rendition sees black glutinous rice sitting between layers of fluffy chiffon cake that brought about a world of textures from the first bite. The addition of the slightly thick coconut creme was also the key that held every component together, lthough I did wish that the fragrance of coconut could be just a tad more prominent.

A popular choice among customers of all ages is the Speculoos Cheesecake ($8). The overall texture of it was beautifully smooth and creamy without being too dense. I loved how the slight saltiness in the cheesecake paired well with the caramel notes of the speculoos, and the added crunch of the lotus biscoff base.

The Goma Cheesecake ($8.50) was just added to the menu recently. The creamy cheesecake, which carried a light fragrance of black sesame, had a crust of what tasted like Oreo cookies, and was topped with crumbs of digestive biscuits. I would have preferred for the black sesame flavours to be stronger but overall, the textures of the cheesecake were once again on point.

You can’t go wrong with the coffee here and the Latte ($6) was a brilliant palate cleanser. Bold and on the acidic side, the brew had a nice, nutty finish that complemented the cakes.

Speaking of strong beverages, the Black Sesame Latte ($6.50 for hot and iced) gave off a very strong fragrance of black sesame even before I took my first sip. It didn’t overpower the milk or make it too heavy, but I suspect it would be better as a hot beverage instead.

Given its slightly inconspicuous and quieter location, K Patisserie is the perfect place to enjoy some cakes, along with a good book.
